None of the top tier Gillette blades, e.g., Rubie, Platinum or 7 O'Clock ones worked for you?
Of the Gillette blades I’ve tried, all have been either quite good or very good. Just not as good as the Feathers or Med Preps. There are still a few types of Gillettes I haven’t tried. The most recent ones I tried, Platinum-Plus (made in Brazil), were excellent — but I haven’t seen that blade being sold in bulk anywhere.

I can't stand Feather DE's, UNLESS (lol), I cork-strop them first with a wine cork (genuine cork).  I just think they are too sharp for their own good.  Their overt sharpness way out-does their actual smoothness in my opinion.  Even if I put them in a razor with a mild gap the smoothness is overshadowed by the sharpness in a negative way.  I guess the only reason I continue to use them here 'n there is for the challenge of getting a BBS shave without irritation or worse.  Have I accomplished this?... yeahI have, in certain razors; but I continue to try them in different razors for the challenge.

Regarding Feather SE blades; I love 'em, especially after the second shave with them.  For me, on the third shave, they are just right.

I like Feathers in razors with lower exposure/gap, but even in those I sometimes can get irritation from them when going XTG/ATG.

I cannot agree more. I used to hate Feather blades, since I never got a good shave with them in any DE razor I've tried. Until I tried a Rockwell 6s - Feathers a butter smooth in the 6s - maybe even better than my preferred voskhod.

Sharpness in a DE blade has nothing to do with smoothness. The latter is from specialized coatings. Period. If you don't believe it then try a NOS carbon blade.     Smooth they ain't. Gillette stated in the 60's that their Blue Blade (coated by then) was their sharpest blade, even moreso than their stainless ones. That said, I never liked Feather blades as IMO their coating process is not as good as Gillette or Personna.

Not a fan. I don't hate them but they're way down the list. I love Feather ProGuard blades for the Artist Club but the DEs I could live without. The Feather Pros are also only okay in the AC but fine in Mongoose-style razors.

If you don't have toughest beard and\or using mildest safety razor - they are too agressive.
