Let the weight do the work, easy to maintain etc. But once I started with the Ti I became very fond of the lighter weight. I do feel the that is a bit of efficiency loss compared to the same configuration in SS but then it could be my technique needs to be refined. I believe in having different gaps available as there have been a few days where the lower gap was greatly appreciated. There is one thing I have learned since I picked up my first DE - it's not about finding the highest gap your mug can tolerate as much as that is a worthy and often neccesary quest.
Your mention of gap got me thinking of my years of dedicated straight razor shaving. Essentially all the razors had the same gap
So the next thought was it may be as much about blade exposure as it is about gap.
For instance, a Blackbird, according to what Shane said ... IIRC ... has a gap of .58. Yet it will hold its own with a Timeless @ .95 among other higher gaps.
I do agree it is good to have an assortment of DEs/SEs in the kit to suit your preference on a given day.
Congrats on the WR2 incoming. You'll probably love it.
Incidentally, in terms of SS weight vs Ti ... my WR2 1.25/1.15 DC has the WRH7 oversize drilled. The handle is nearly as light as the Darwin. So that brings it into the range of Ti.
