I agree with James but with one caveat. The Home Like Shaving Taiga is also hyper efficient and I have been using these 2 razors neck and neck. The Taiga goes up to a 1.63 gap on 8 or all the way opened up and it’s super smooth. The Sailor has every razor beat on build quality right now but shave for shave with these 2 on the same approximate gap, the Taiga is smoother. I love them both and these may be my last razors purchased for a while......maybe!!

The Taiga maxes out a 8? You are comparing it to Sailor on 10? I've not read the Taiga thread at all. As I recall, the photos didn't grab my attention, but if it's that good maybe I need to look into it.

I think you REALLY need to get one! As much as you love the Sailor, you will also love this one and the uniqueness of being able to swap from the OC plate to the SB plate is amazing. This one can also be fully broken down. Build quality is outstanding and just below the Rocnel. The shave is outstanding though!

By the way, last shave with the Taiga, I went 15 hours before feeling stubble. That was on #8 with a Feather. It is also hyper efficient like the Sailor.

Ok I have a question. I shaved with the Taiga prototype on what would be setting 8 but still had 2 more notches if you can call them that to go to get to the end. So is the production version different as far as how many twists it can go to because on the prototype it would equate to a setting 10 correct or again is the production version different from the prototype? On 8 setting I got a two pass BBS that lasted about 14 hrs and I'm sure I could push it beyond that. It seems like the Sailor would be more efficient, aggressive, effective as I thought that LOOT James mentioned on max it's got a gap over 2.0. Not sure about the Sailors smoothness because I haven't tried one yet by the Taiga was smooth on setting 8. I'm going to do a side by side with the Gibbs on 6 to keep it fair and see how they compare.

Your thoughts?

I had the prototype as well and used it all the way opened up. The final production seems like the gap is about the same opened up but I can’t be sure unless I had the 2 side by side. The dial is slightly different on the final production version and the numbers stop at 6 but mine turns 2 more full numbers or to number 8. Home Start posted the gap measurements up to 7.5 and that was 1.58.

Edit: OK...I just looked.  That's the Gibbs looking knock off.  I don't like the looks of those, the Gibbs, the Rx, or any of the other variants to the  Frenchie Froo Froo.  I'll have to take your word for it. Smile
James I'm here LMAO! You and the Frenchie Foo Foo! haha!

I'll make a note here for you as you mentioned this in another post. I'm thinking that both the Sailor and maybe the Taiga on max settings are going to be a bit more efficient than the Janus even with the more efficient upgrades over the Prototype but If it's as smooth or smoother than the prototype then it's the smoothest VERY efficient razor I've shaved with. So I like you have very high expectations for it and I hope it delivers the goods. If it's as efficient as let's say a WR2 SB 1.45/1.55 with the upgrades which I expect it to be and still as smooth as the Prototype was then it will be the kind of adjustable that will take very little focus and yet give great results.. just some thoughts as I know we both have one coming and we are getting close for that delivery.

I am 16 1/2 hours out from last nights 2 pass shave and stubble has returned along the jawline. My Taiga arrives today if USPS is correct, I will try a side by side when I have enough to shave.

Dragonsbeard When I used the prototype I got 6 then 5 more so go to eleven and it was still smooth - as smooth if not smoother than the WR2 Ti 145. The smoothness made it easy to use without the fear of chopping up the face and when I used at 5 or 6 I wasn't sure it was even cutting but it is very efficient.

With this, the Janus coming in a few weeks and the Sailor it looks like a renaissance of high priced, limited released adjustables is here for 2020 - it should be interesting

Tonight I had 2 1/2 days growth and decided to go milder to see how it would shave. Took a hot shower and pulled out Art of Shaving Lavender soap and Balm. Loaded up an Astra SP and dialed the Sailor to M+ WTG was very smooth and much less blade feel than my previous shaves. It was there but in no way threatening XTG again very smooth and with a touchup under the nose and along the jawline I was BBS. No irritation whatsoever. I wasn’t sure if I would keep this razor as I shave daily but I think dialed down with a milder blade it’s a winner as a daily driver too.
