This morning I dialed it back up a bit to a full 360 degree turn or 10 from my count from starting dot all the way back around through the settings back to the starting dot. Used a thrice used Feather blade and got an amazingly close smooth shave. I was extremely light touched with this shave and let the head do all of the work. No nicks, cuts or irritation. Just an incredibly close 2.5 pass BBS. I will be doing that face feel all day today because I could feel and hear the razor mowing down 2 days growth effortlessly. I do a WTG, ATG and XTG shave and I felt like I could have stopped after my first pass. My last shave with the Taiga was super smooth as well but I dialed that one back to 4.5 with the OC plate. Next shave with the Taiga will be with the SB plate opened all the way up which is about a 6.5-7 on that one. LOOT would know what the blade gap is at 10 on the Rocnel. On the Taiga, opened all the way is about a 1.58-1.60 blade gap. I am really enjoying comparing these 2 machines! The Sailor was absolutely phenomenal today!!

[Image: e8gTS2B.jpg]Got my new Sailor today.
Pre shave Hot shower
Blade PolSilver
Soap Panna Creama Nuavia Blue
Thayers then Sebum Purple
Beautiful looking razor, knurling is fantastic and it has great balance so you really don’t notice the heavy weight. My razor starts just before the M so I dialed it up to the line past the m/a which I would consider 6 and did a WTG pass. Lots of blade feel at about 20 degrees so I went to about 30 and it smoothed out but still significant blade feel but smooth.
For my next 2 passes I dialed it down to a 4 and it was smooth giving me a BBS that sure feels like it will last awhile longer than most. I did have one wheeper under my jawline, I believe I had too much pressure ATG there. I am going to need to play with this for awhile, somewhat of a challenge

You musta been typing as I was...haha

If the dot is off...loosen it up and rotate the top cap 180 degrees. With a blade, it should line up perfectly.

I agree with on all points. Lots of blade feel. This I have to really pay attention and cheat to the top cap for angle instead my normal bar riding.

I think 4 is the sweet spot...still requires attention to detail.

This razor could easily remove chunks of flesh, even at lower settings

This is definitely the new BEAST, it was not harsh but I felt like if I didn’t stay focused this razor would take a bite out of you.  I didn’t initially buy it as I thought it would be too heavy but it never felt heavy during the shave, really good balance.  I checked the top cap with a blade and it starts just between the line and the M Phil said it needs to loosen up with a few shaves, but since it is a continuous adjustable it’s not that big of a deal. My original B&R took about 5 shaves before it lined up exactly.

Sounds like you two gents have a Lion in your den!! Beautiful razor! What’s the max setting on it?

I agree. It sounds heavier than it is. The head has a lot of bulk but it still balances very well.

Next time you can, open it to 10 and put it on as much growth as possible...and bring your A game.

Keep me posted on how it compares to the Taiga too. That should be interesting.

LOOT James I had 2 1/2 days growth tonight which you know is a long time for me. I will try it Sunday night on 3 days growth. I just reloaded a blade and it lined up perfectly on the dot. Might have been because it was so cold here today and I didn’t give it much time to warm up before I used it. If my Taiga ever arrives I will do a side by side, it’s been somewhere between Russia and the US for the past 9 days.

Shavemd Mark, really interesting to hear your reactions to using the Sailor - I have maybe a half-dozen shaves now with mine - getting better each time. The first time I set it to just past M/A and felt like I could take my face off if I wasn't careful - Now I'm at about '3' and really liking the feel and heft of this razor - feels different, of course, than my RS-10, but I really do like it as a change - takes more concentration for me, but also probably a slightly more efficient shave...

FYI Phil (BullGoose) just put up (he emailed me that number) 5 more Sailors for preorder if anyone is interested.

Wow this razor is the BEAST. I took James LOOT  suggestion and did a WTG pass on level 10 the razor didn’t have much change in blade feel but Holy Crap it went thru 2 days growth like it was peach fuzz. When I was done I was near BBS except my neck, jawline and under the nose. I dropped all the way down to 3 and did a full ATG. BBS level 3 by Frank’s Dragonsbeard scale. A little burn on the lateral neck area with alum but rest was normal. I used a PolSilver blade and TOB’s grapefruit. I know it is not good to compare by memory but the Sailor is way more efficient than my IKon tech I sold and smoother.
