What setting? What blade?

I used a GSB on 3.5 today and it was fantastic. Nice and smooth, no tugging, plenty of efficiency...which kind surprises me.

I agree, it can/does requires attention. Take care how you lay it on your face...and mind pressure. It hasn't bit me yet, but it's a matter of time on higher settings. The razor seems pretty adept at anything mild to wild. I don't think it will ever be mindless tho.

I put it about half-way at the M/A mark (I think about 5 in your metric Smile ) - with a wizmet blade that'd used a couple of times - I love the feel and weight of the razor, and it was just when I got a bit over-confident at how well I was doing and did a couple of touch-ups - probably not enough soap and a little too quickly. But I feel like I'll figure it out - maybe dial it back just a touch for next time. But such a great feeling razor - and wonderfully efficient! It's gonna give my RS-10 a run for its money!

Set on 5, you need to be paying attention and it seems like each setting after it, attention required goes up exponentially it seems. At 10, you need to be in zen mode or it could get bloody.

Used it on M/A with a Feather and this thing is amazing but you do have to be careful with a sharper blade. My last 2 shaves were with PolSilver blades and set to a much higher gap but I was being extremely careful due to setting the gap higher. I can tell this razor is made for Feather blades because the shave was super smooth but for that reason I was a bit careless and had a couple nicks. All good though.

I just noticed that brush. It's gorgeous. That the copper Alpha? I had to avert my gaze hard on that handle. What knot you stuff in it?

Thanks man! His handles are absolutely beautiful. I ended up getting all four that he offered. Titanium has Srdjan’s knot in it from Australia, the copper, bronze and black aluminum all have the Oumo/AP Shaves Gealousy SHD knots in them. Rawfox1 turned me on to them when he posted his titanium on Instagram or the forums.

Living on the edge
The weight of this razor threw me off....but imagine if it was titanium.

So....I'm homing in on the perfect blade in this thing. 2nd use GSB today, on 7 (A), with no pressure, just letting that big honking mass of SS provide it own pressure. Even with the gap opened, this was the best shave with the Sailor to date, even with 3 small nicks on my jaw line. They were totally my fault. My final half pass is right to left, ear to ear, and if I don't get my jawline in the correct alignment with my big fat neck, I'll roll over the curve in my jaw. No bueno. One was simply laying the blade down incorrectly on my chin during the same pass. On A...minor lapses in concentration will get you some blood. I was surprised at just how smooth it was with the GSB. I'm thinking an Astra will be similar.

Unusual idea of a 1 pass shave tonight. I set it to 10. With that gap, I only rinsed the razor 2 times. To start, then the do my neck. Lots of soap on my hand but no problem.

It occured to me, the blade feel is much like a 2011 R41 but the Sailor has enough weight to it that gravity is pretty much all you need. It cuts much closer than the 2011, I believe.

I also note, I am a steep angle shaver but the Sailor is much, much smoother closer to neutral. Even opened up.

Had I really paid attention to my face map, I could have easily gotten BBS on my face and jawline in one pass. Next time, perhaps.

Next up for me is a Voskhod Blade. I will set it a bit lower this time at M or M+. I have used a PolSilver and a Feather so far. These 3 blades are my go to blades in all of my DE razors so between those 3 I always find the right cut. So far the the Feather was the best between that and the PolSilver. We’ll see.

george1906 G...and Shavemd Mark...I hope you dont mind me continuing the conversation we were having across the street.

I've only used the Sailor a handful of times with 3 or 4 different blades. I took a break from it and used my 94OC the other day.

Tonight I put the 94OC against the '19 Sailor on 6 (A) with new Feathers in them both. After the first pass and a face feel...the Sailor clearly removed more hair. The Sailor also had more blade feel. The WR1 was slightly smoother but not much.

On 6, the Sailor is closer to a WR2 155 think. Kinda crazy.

Mark...I know you have both razors soon. Run this shave off at some point and let me know your thoughts.[Image: c622293dccc6c2180187dae5baa740d2.jpg]

Definitely as the WR1 .94 is one of my favorite razors, so smooth and yet usually only takes 2 passes for a good 14 hour BBS. Thanks for the all the info, helps me know where to start with this razor.  Should get my Homelike Taiga soon too so I will compare it to the sailor also.
