Rockwell model T

I really don't know what to think of it. Are they trying to get back all the backers that were refunded because of the long wait and then announce the $195 was a mistake? For about this price, most SS razors can be had. This has Zamak doors (although I've read somewhere that Zamak today is not what it used to be. There are strict specifications on it, which may or may not make it a durable metal). A FB can be had for much less and probably shave similarly. An all SS REX can be had for a bit more, but it comes with a slim head that surely is a gem around the nose area and also based on one of the best-designed razors in history. I'm really baffled. If at this price it came with 100 Personna tungsten 74 blades, I could then understand the price point, but from the reviews, I have never even bothered trying the Rockewll DE blades it's coming with.

I would like to agree on the Zamak part. Most wet shaving threads tend to under-rate Zamak more than it deserves. In the past decade I've owned several Zamak only or Zamak head razors and none had any issues whatsoever. Whenever I search for Zamak rot - all I see is a lot of negative biase towards the metal however only one pic which everyone points to which has the threads on a cap corroded. Was it Zamak rot or something else - no one seems to agree.

I've had superlative customer service experience with Rockwell and hae been watching the entire Model T journey. It appear they now have many man years of experience in developing this razor to be of brass, metal and Zamak. I feel this would be one tough razor. The disassembly video on youtube i joy to watch. I am also very confident that the Model T has the same shave dynamics and smoothness as the Rockwell 6S and i might end up buying all three variants (chrome, gunmetal and brushed) before the price hike !!

Everyone talks of the Rex ambassador but fail to mention that the spring mechanism has issues to be sorted as well as the adjustable knob is placed at a point where you could inadvertently end up changing aggression in the middle of a pass.

I think that razor manufacturers today are very much aware of the Zamak hate which forums have and would use nothing but the highest quality of the alloy which would not be as short lived as most wet shavers against zamak make it out to be.

In fact for anyone down playing Zamak - please post your pictures of the Zamak rot which detroyed any of your zamak razors !

We did address the spring tension with razors made in 2018. And anyone who has gen 1 razor (M3 / m4 date Code l) can contact me and we will pay shipping both ways to swap out the component. It is nearly twice the tension now on the spring and there will be no inadvertent adjusting.

In terms of zinc - we work on vintage razors every day. I buy and sell collections too. I can attest that zinc is not the durable metal that brass or steel is. Two reasons:
1) it is horrible on Parts that rub together. Old 3 piece razors - the threading is always the first to go. Once you eat through the chrome but turning something a few hundred times, water will start to disintegrate the zinc over time. My concern with the model t (not knocking it - highly respect What they’ve done) is that the doors have a small hinge point that will eventually wear out in this same fashion.
2) chrome plating is always done in combination with zinc to overcome zinc fragility but chrome is not a durable metal. Just look at an old bumper. Chrome spiders and blisters over time. Especially around Water. But taking off chrome is very challenging on a zinc part - too long in the acid and you’ll eat your part up. So long term maintenance of chrome parts or the possibility of refinishing is a major concern.

Having the first generation Ambassador, I never experienced inadvertent aggression change.

But then I tend to hold my razors near the bottom of the handle to let the weight of the head do the work. I wonder if the high choke grips are also contributing to the problem

Either Way, good on you Razor Emporium for making good on your word. I for one am a major fan and have always gotten great service from you guys. Even when I had a problem with a 'wavy' top cap, it was replaced promptly and without drama.

Exactly what parts of this are made from what? The website makes no reference.
