Hands down Safi; it is the best soap ever encountered period, hard stop.

DanLaw Dan, don't you make me try that Vanilla Safi and break my stance on vanilla centric soaps. Frank has already converted me on some other scents. And I am running out of storage space.   Smile

I believe Frank tweaked it again recently, around the introduction of Sandalo Artistico . I believe there was an improved skin beneficial added along with a few other changes that I can't recall. I noticed a meaningful change (hard to believe when it was already so good) with Sandalo and Frank has commented on the changes earlier in the thread.

Ok guys here is how you can tell the newest  F Base from the original. Look at the highlighted ingredients and yes they are all adding skin benefits to the shave soap beyond what was in the original F Base which honestly I never had a problem with of any kind and I have used many many Shave soaps and Shave creams throughout this 20 plus year journey including all the samples people send me samples of the latest and greatest all the time so I have a lot of Shave Soaps & Creme's to compare to. With that said as technology in skincare moves forward that's when I make tweeks to the bases. So below is a ingredient list from Rosa and Vetiver which are in the latest/newest F Base along with 2 others. Sandalo Artistico and even before that one of the original F Base Shave Soaps, Fresco. Sandalo was newer than Fresco with some improvements as rocket mentioned.   The ingredients that make the most difference in skin benefits in this newest F Base formula are the ones highlighted in Red. I have made some other tweeks in percentages and I also vary in some of the butters and oils I use and that sometimes depends  on the Aroma Blend I'm using. In this case you'll see a lot of Rose based ingredients like Rose Butter in there for example whereas in another F Base you may see Orange butter ( it's a natural substitute for Lanolin FYI ) or other butters or oils etc. I have a little case of OCD when it comes to ingredients and while most people are sleeping part of my sleep time is taken up by me in my bed, on my phone looking up ingredients as well as natural Aromatics.

Here is the ingredient list for Sandalo Artistico below and like rocket mentioned it was the first F Base that was modified by using some newer versions of some ingredients but mostly percentages of ingredients. So it was the first modified F Base since the release of some of the originals like Fresco for example and shown below in the ingredients list. Since Sandalo there have been even more tweek's as seen in the Rosa ingredient list above and the soon to be released Vetiver F Base below.

1st Gen F Base

Fresco: Ingredients: Aloe Vera Juice, Stearic Acid, Grass Fed Beef Tallow, Duck Fat, Organic Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Shea Butter, Kokum Butter, Mango Butter, Organic Vegetable Glycerin, Potassium Stearate, Sheep Milk, Coconut Milk, Sodium Hydroxide, Grass Fed Bison Tallow, Argan Oil, Apricot Kernel, Kukui Nut Oil, Organic Sicilian Lime Distilled Essential Oil, Fresh Lime/Fresh Basil Infusion, EOS Complex, Allantoin, Oat Amino Acids, Silk Amino Acids, Soy/Rice Peptides, Organic Spearmint Essential Oil, Sorbitol, Organic Vitamin E Oil, Sodium Lactate, Xanthan Gum, Lanolin, Guava Fruit Powder Extract, Lonicera Capritolin (Natural Preservative) Calendula Extract, Aloe Vera Extract, Comfrey Extract, Milk Thistle Extract.

2nd Gen F Base

Sandalo Artistico : Ingredients: Aloe Vera Juice, Stearic Acid, Grass Fed Beef Tallow, Duck Fat, Organic Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Cocoa Butter, Kokum Butter, Mango Butter, Organic Glycerin, Potassium Stearate, Sheep Milk, Coconut Milk, Sodium Hydroxide, Grass Fed Bison Tallow, Argan Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Kukui Nut Oil, Organic East Indian Sandalwood Essential Oil, Mysore Sandalwood Accord, Mysoral Sandalwood Accord, Jasmine Grandiflorum Absolute Oil, Vintage 1960 Mysore Sandalwood Essential Oil, Benzoin Resin Oil, Orris Butter Resin 10%, Myrrh Essential Oil, EOS Complex, Allantoin, Oat Amino Acids, Silk Amino Acids, Soy/Rice Peptides, Sorbitol, Organic Vitamin E Oil, Sodium Lactate, Xanthan Gum, Lanolin, Capritolin (Natural Preservative) Calendula Extract, Aloe Vera Extract, Comfrey Extract, Milk Thistle Extract, Chamomile Extract.

3rd Gen F Base

Rosa : Ingredients: Aloe Vera Juice, Organic Bulgarian Rose De Mai Hydrosol, Grass Fed Whipped Beef Tallow, Stearic Acid, Castor Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut Oil, Myristic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Illipe Nut Butter, Organic Rose Butter, Organic Vegetable Glycerin, Sheep Milk, Coconut Milk, Sodium Hydroxide, Ostrich Oil,  Rosehip Oil, Organic Bulgarian Red Rose Damask Essential Oil, Organic  Bulgarian White Rose Essential Oil, Organic Rose Extract CO2, Organic Rose Distillate, EOS Complex, Allantoin, Organic Rose Damask Absolute, Oat Amino Acids, Silk Amino Acids, Soy/Rice Peptides, Sorbitol, Organic Vitamin E 50 Oil, Sodium Lactate, Ceramide Complex, Hyaluronic Acid Oil, Liquid Lanolin, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid, Comfrey Extract, Rose Hip Extract, Calendula Extract, White Willow Bark Extract, Aloe Vera Extract, Milk Thistle Extract, Chamomile Extract, Capritolin (Natural Preservative).

3rd Gen F Base

Vetivert: Ingredients: Aloe Vera Juice, Stearic Acid, Grass Fed Beef Tallow, Duck Fat, Organic Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Cocoa Butter, Kokum Butter, Cupuacu Butter, Organic Glycerin, Potassium Stearate, Sheep Milk, Camel Milk, Sodium Hydroxide, Grass Fed Bison Tallow, Argan Oil, Organic Avocado Oil, Kukui Nut Oil, Essential Oils of Italian Bergamot, Yellow Mandarin, Green Mandarin, Italian Blood Orange, Clary Sage, Organic Ginger, Organic Double Distilled Haitian Vetiver, Organic Madagascar Vétivert, Organic Petitgrain, Violet Leaf Absolute, Australian Sandalwood Oil, Ostrich Oil, EOS Complex, Allantoin, Oat Amino Acids, Silk Amino Acids, Soy/Rice Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid Oil,  Hydrolyzed Collagen Protein, Organic Vitamin E  ET - 50 Oil, Sodium Lactate, Xanthan Gum, Lanolin, Comfrey Extract, Calendula Extract, Aloe Vera Extract, Organic Viola Odorata Extract, Milk Thistle Extract, Chamomile Extract, Capritolin (Natural Preservative).

NOTE:

The Comfrey Extract that's in both the Vetivert and the Rosa are not the same as what's in the other two. It is a brand new much more complex ingredient with some really long words so I asked if Comfrey Extract could be used and FDA approved from the ingredient company that I get if from and they said yes. So it's a little bombshell of great Skin Beneficial ingredients and I'll be doing a write up on a lot of the new ingredients I"m working with currently in my products after I get caught up.

Hope this clears things up on the F Bases.

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!

Sorry Frank, it was my fault opening that 'can of worms'. I was only wondering if Lanolin was still in the F-base, as I won't use any Lanolin soaps.

Checking all of the listings you posted, it is definitely there. That answers my question.

Again, I didn't mean to create a stir. Appreciate the details, though. I hope you have a great weekend as well.

Hello mrdoug

I’m just curious what is the reason you won’t use a soap with Lanolin in it? Do you have an allergy to it? Like I mentioned Orange Butter is an Alternative I’ve used in a couple of my soaps and I’ve been giving it thought to do an experiment with a soap not using lanolin and would like to compare the performance. Maybe you could test one for me.

let me know.

enjoy the holiday weekend.
Hey Frank. I'm not 100% sure, honestly. Over the years I've experienced so many bad shaves. Sometimes I could tell the scent ingredients were the culprit, other times it didn't make sense.

My skin got worse and really doubled down in the past year when I started taking some new medicine. So, I did a complete shutdown and kicked both Lanolin as well as scents out. It seems to have helped. I also only use two soaps, as of now. I'd be lying if I didn't say I miss the scent, but I am enjoying the better shaves. It's an unfortunate trade-off.

So, I can't say for sure Lanolin is the culprit. I'm more inclined to think it 'adds to the problem'? So I've decided to avoid it, to be safe.

Being I cannot say for sure what part Lanolin played, nor do I have a grasp on any other ingredients that could have been an issue, I don't know that I'm a great choice to try something out. If it worked for me, great... But I don't want my results, one way or the other, to lead you astray.

I totally get what your saying and respect your honesty.

I’ve had a lot of people with skin issues of all sorts message me saying that they don’t get some of their normal skin problems when using ETHOS products. My main focus when making Shave soap besides the basics in regards to overall performance had been high quality skin beneficial ingredients. As allergic reactions go by far scents scents are the number one cause and I’ve found that synthetics generally are less tolerable than naturals.  So eliminating any aromatic ingredients of any kind is the first thing to get rid of.  Another thing to look at is the butters and oils used. Ones that ares known to clog pores can also create issues. Another thing that can cause certain skin types to react is Ph. If it’s to high or to low definitely can cause problems.  Lanolin when looking at studies is very low on the allergic index of 1 to 2% and that’s for people with oily or sensitive skin. An you may be in that percentage. The benefits of Lanolin is It’s not only a good breathable protector of the skin but it does have some moisturizing qualities to it. People with no skin issue’s according to studies have no issues with Lanolin.  I for one don’t use much at all in my formulas and I use the liquid variation as I find it easier to work with but after a bit of research I’m looking to possibly replace it with Orange Butter which is the best natural alternative currently out there. The reason I was asking if you’d like to test a sample of an unscented shave soap that uses Orange butter rather than Lanolin is to see if anyone notices any difference on their shaving experience.

Just thought I’d explain my motive for asking you if you’d like to try it.

Best regards

That makes a lot of sense, and now I need to go back and look at some of the soaps I've used - for what I can remember - and see what else is in them. Hmm.

Based on that, I suppose I would be willing to try it out if you have extra room in your test group.

Thanks Frank.

Thanks Mike. It does not contain lanolin. I've actually tried it, and it worked pretty well for me. I didn't pick it up, as I believe tallow soaps seem to do a better job... Maybe?

His Tallow shave cream worked very well for me, but I do love a firm soap over a cream or soft soap. So, that's why I initially asked about the new formula. A hard soap, akin to his TSC, without Lanolin sounds like a slam dunk.
