I have no idea. I really need to do some detailed measurements and side by side comparisons of the top and bottom plates to know for sure. But with my eye, it appears the blade sets closer to the edge of the bottom plate in the AlumiGoose. I guess I could take the AlumiGoose bottom plate and use it with my Batch 2 Mongoose top plate for the next shave.

The thing I've noticed just eye-balling it is that the top cap of the AlumiGoose is a much steeper angle than my B1 stainless.

Just wanted to catch up on the last 3 shaves with the Mongoose/Feather Super Pro combo. All three shaves were very quick work morning 2 pass shaves. With very minor touch ups all the shaves were near BBS. I experienced no irritation, nicks or weepers. For my uses, the Feather Super Pro is the best blade in the Mongoose. I can get extremely close long lasting shaves with no drama.

My friend, Clark is considering buying a Mongoose or AlumiGoose. So I have loaned him both with an assortment of blades for the month of March. I am interested in his take on both razors.

I will continue to update the thread when the razors are returned.

Clark is not much of an internet forum guy but he really liked the Mongoose. His go to razor is the ATT R1 and he preferred the shaves of the Mongoose. In fact he ordered and should receive his own Mongoose today.

*I got my Alumigoose today head and handle, I shaved with it this morning and it was a perfect smooth BBS shave. I liked it better then the reg Mongoose It was easier to handle and its a good looking razor.

My new Alumigoose arrived this week from Maggards. I'm hoping I get on with it better than the stainless steel version, which tended to be a bit rough for me (it requires light pressure, it seems, but the heft of the razor counters this). My hope is that the lighter, nimbler Alumigoose will suit my shaving style better. I tend to like lighter razors. I'm looking forward to trying it once my 14-day exclusive stint with the OneBlade is done.
David : DE shaving since Nov 2014. Nowadays giving in to the single-edge siren call.

Do keep us updated as you use the razor more. Please post up some pics as well.

I look forward to your thoughts on the AlumiGoose. I am looking forward to getting mine back from Clark over the next couple of weeks.

Figured I'd throw a few thoughts into this thread since I now own three different Mongoose razors:
  • Batch 3 stainless steel Mongoose which I use exclusively on a Jürgen Hempel Ti handle (as I found the Mongoose handle to be too heavy)
  • Batch 1 AlumiGoose with matching aluminum handle (shiny black finish)
  • Latest version of the AlumiGoose with matching aluminum handle (mat anodized black finish)

I'd echo your thoughts regarding the 1st-gen AlumiGoose generally feeling more aggressive when compared to the SS Mongoose. My go-to blade in my SS Mongoose was a Kai Captain Titan Mild, and this blade provides smooth and easy shaves for me in my SS Mongoose. No weepers and no irritation unless I do something stupid.

Once I received my 1st-gen AlumiGoose (from a BST group) I loaded my trusty Kai Captain Titan Mild blade and went to it. Well, I ended up with a few weepers on my neck and just an overall feeling of irritation that I never receive with my SS Mongoose with the same blade. A couple more shaves backed-up my feelings that the geometry of the head is somehow different with the 1st-gen AlumiGoose (versus my SS Mongoose), which is resulting in a more aggressive shave for me. This was an issue, as I was already using what is probably the mildest Artist Club blade in the AlumiGoose. I never did try the Kai Captain Titan Mild Protouch MG (guarded) blade in the 1st-gen AlumiGoose, perhaps it might help to tame the shave a bit for me. I think I still have a few laying around, I'll have to give it a try one day.

Fast forward to this weekend when I had my maiden shave with the latest version of the AlumiGoose which I was lucky enough to purchase through Maggard Razors based on requesting to be added to the AlumiGoose waiting list a while back. I had a great first shave with this new AlumiGoose, again using my go-to Kai Captain Titan Mild blade. No weepers, no irritation...just a nice easy shave with near BBS results like I was used to receiving with my SS Mongoose. If anything, I'd say this new AlumiGoose might be a tad more aggressive feeling to me when compared to my SS Mongoose, but they are really close. So for me, this new AlumiGoose is definitely a keeper and I'm strongly considering selling my 1st-gen AlumiGoose as I really can't justify keeping it at this point and it likely will just collect dust.

Thank you for the update. Your comparison between the AlumiGoose V1 and V2 was of particular interest. At some point, I might consider adding a V2 AlumiGoose.
