At long last, I received my AlumiGoose and Mongoose back from my friend Clark. He preferred the Mongoose and actually ordered one from Maggard Razors. I took the opportunity to spend the March using my Wolfman OC and the first part of this month I have used the Cobra Classic. While I have enjoyed both razors, I am happy to get these back in rotation.

Both of these shaves were close, efficient and uneventful. The AlumiGoose V1 seems more aggressive to me than my B2 Mongoose. I regularly use the Mongoose with a Feather Super Pro and find that blade too much in the AlumiGoose. In fact the AlumiGoose approaches the Cobra Classic in terms of aggression. I will continue using the AlumiGoose and Cobra Classic for the remainder of the month.

Clint64,

I have throughly enjoyed reading your posts and comparisons between the AlumiGoose and the SS Mongoose. Great pictures as well!

Like Sharpspine's journal, I have found it incredibly useful and informative.

I have acquired a batch 1 AlumiGoose and I'm looking forward to using it.

Many thanks

I have been splitting work morning shave duties between the Cobra Classic and AlumiGoose.  It does make for a very nice comparison using them back to back with the same blades choices.  The AlumiGoose is so light and nimble.  It is not quite as sleek as the Cobra Classic but I do appreciate the light weight of the AlumiGoose.  The shave this morning was very nice.  I went with the same pass routine, I have been using with Cobra, XTG followed by ATG.  After some minor touch ups I did catch the baby and ended up with a BBS shave.  This is not something I strive for on work mornings but it is nice when it happens.  I find the AlumiGoose V1 to be very close to the Cobra Classic in terms of efficiency and aggressiveness.  I am looking forward to taking the AlumiGoose out for another spin tomorrow.

A fantastic shave this morning with the AlumiGoose V1.  I decided to mix things up on the 2 pass shave.  I went ATG for the 1st pass followed by XTG for the second pass.  With some very minor touch ups along my jaw line, I managed to catch the baby.  The AlumiGoose and Mongoose are the only razors I attempt using for an ATG first pass.  I really enjoy this razor/blade combo.  The combo consistently delivers smooth close shaves and I have to go out of my way to cut myself.  In my quest to master the Cobra Classic I will using it for the next few days before returning to the AlumiGoose next week.  I do plan to use the AlumiGoose and Mongoose extensively during May.

Back to the AlumiGoose and Mongoose after spending some quality time with the Cobra Classic.  The last 2 shaves have been smooth and close with no irritation, nicks or weepers.  The shaves are as close as my work morning shaves with the Cobra Classic.  I am not sure how my AlumiGoose V1 compares to the newer version but I am very pleased with this razor.  My plans for the next month include using either the AlumGoose or Mongoose for all my work morning shaves.  I will also give the AlumiGoose a try with Feather Pro Super blades as well.

I used the AlumiGoose for the last work morning shave of April.  I must say shaving with both the AlumiGoose and Cobra Classic for weekday shaves has been a real eye opener for me.  Initially, I felt the Cobra was much more efficient and aggressive.  At the end, I still think the Cobra is more prone to bite me but I am no longer so sure that is vastly more efficient than the AlumiGoose V1.  Since the AlumiGoose is so light it feels almost as nimble as the Cobra Classic and honestly I prefer the 3 piece handles to the stylized handle of the Cobra Classic.  However, to my eye the Cobra is by far the better looking razor of the two.

Starting off the month of May with the B2 Mongoose.  My first reaction during the shave was one of size and weight.  The thing just felt heavier than I remembered.  I guess this was to be expected after not using the Mongoose in over 60 days.  As the shave progressed, the weight became less apparent.  Overall the last two shaves with the Mongoose/Feather Super combo have been very close.  I did get one nick and a couple of weepers.  I sort of expected this.  It takes me a couple of days to settle into this combo.

Just picked up a silver AlumiGoose at Straight Razor Designs. (It has the hex handle, so I guess this is the Version 2 model.) Lately I've been using the Feather AC Japanese straight and have been impressed with the AC Pro Super blades, so I thought it would be cool to have a safety razor that takes them for days when I don't have the time for a full-bore straight shave. Also, to break in the blade for a few shaves before putting it in the straight. I have about 10 shaves on my current Super and it's more forgiving now than it was on the first couple of shaves, so I figure a few AlumiGoose shaves would mellow the blade nicely. Anyway, I'm stoked about the AlumiGoose -- can't wait for it to get here!  Character

Also -- I'm thinking that the AlumiGoose will work well with my UFO Kaiser aircraft aluminum handle.

Hi Viseguy,

Which company makes the open comb head on the right of your picture? Thanks

Hey Gavo, that's a Fatip head that I had plated in 24k gold. The handle is a UFO Goliath in red bronze. (It's a shame that Rafael at UFO is not taking orders because his handles are amazing.)
