Rose Santal opens up with a distinct cardamom note, which is lent some brightness from the bergamot. I thought I had it figured out as a spicy rose. But boy was I wrong!

The cardamom retreats into the background, and milky sandalwood appears, along with the rose. Together the sandalwood and cardamom give off the distinct impression of chai. This chai brew is kept warm through the use of a cleverly placed black pepper note.

However, this is a chai suitable for people who do not like chai (like me) because it is kept in check by the rose note. In some ways, the combination of rose and sandalwood notes can give the impression of honey. Rose Santal is a cup of spiced tea with honey.

As the scent progresses, it becomes progressively sweeter as the rose comes into the foreground. The cardamom never really goes away, keeping the sweetness of rose in check. In Santal Majuscule by Serge Lutens, the sweetness is kept in check the bitterness of cacao. There certainly are artistic merits in choosing to go either direction.

Overall, this is a wonderfully warm scent for this winter.

Next up, Sylva. I have it on my other hand, but it is so beautiful, I just want to experience it without thinking for now.

That is a great review, thank you! Wonderfully written and insightful. I love it, thank you for taking the time to write it!

Oh yeah, since that is in the blog section it lists older blog articles like that "Release Schedule Update" article from 2017 in the "Recent Articles" section. Maybe I should go back and delete that blog article in order to avoid further confusion.

Or maybe just rely on people reading the date!! Big Grin I admit that I was wandering aimlessly and clicking on whatever shiny object caught my eye. I guess I assumed that all roads led to Rome, i.e., clicking on Release Schedule anywhere on your page would take me to the current version. Technology Dodgy Looking on the bright side, I had about a 12 -14 hour period where I believed that I was going to be able to order as much BBB as I wanted and that was worth the subsequent momentary disappointment when I realized I had erred. I feel badly for having raised others' hopes though. Hope they understand. And I hope you understand as well, I understand your timing pressures but I feel its my duty to keep asking. I'm nothing if not persistent.

That is so true.

You're doing CL full time now aren't you? How is that adjustment going? Do you take yourself aside on a daily basis to crush your own soul just so you stay in touch with the joys of corporate life? Big Grin

One week from today is my last day full time in the office, but I will continue to do freelance work for them on the side. Basically, I get to do all the fun, top-line brand strategy and fun copywriting projects and all the grunt work that I hated will be done by a junior. So I get the best of both worlds, really: do Chatillon Lux full time and also get to stick around and to the 20% of my job that made me happy.

Also, I'm really looking forward to opportunities that I couldn't take advantage of due to time constraints. I am already cooking up a few projects as we speak. So excited!

That sounds great, we're all looking forward to what you come up with.

Here's a thought (that is a little self serving)...if you were to develop a new bay inspired scent that wasn't BBB, what would that scent be like? Just planting a seed Smile

Congratulations, Shawn.  All the best to you and Chatillon Lux.  We here at DFS always look forward to what you bring out and now things should get even more interesting. Smile

Hi Shawn, I've noticed that some of the other artisans in the wet shaving space have expanded their lineup lately to include deodorant. Have you ever considered expanding in that direction? I'm sure that Henri Chatillon and the other pioneers he hung out with must have occasionally had stinky pits. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't like clashing deodorant smells with post shave products or EDP. Personally I've been using alum crystal deodorant for a few years now and that has no odour at all but If I were doing a Bon Vivant shave and post shave it might be nice to round out the whole package.

That could be cool (I personally have taken to wearing unscented deodorant, as well, so it does not interfere with my fragrance), but I haven't looked into it to be honest. I wouldn't have the money to get FDA certification for any sorts of active ingredients and so I would worry about the efficacy of the products.

At the moment, I'm just concentrating on learning candlemaking, which seems like a pretty easy transition from the salve-making process and a bit more in-line with my current focus on scents.

I guess I could rub candles in my armpits. Unlit of course Big Grin
