Good gosh, this is an aggressive razor! I've always had respect for the Mühle R41, and have enjoyed my shaves with it. But this Ikon Tech felt even more aggressive to me-lots of blade feel. To me, it felt less 'smooth' than the Mühle-not a rough shave by any means, but not the smoothest either.

I used a new Feather blade, and after a few strokes my shaving sense kicked in, and sent the message to my hands to go slow. The shave felt extremely close, a BBS that feels like it will last for a couple of days. However, this may be the most 'dangerous' razor I've used. Looking forward to using it more, but not for a few days! Smile

I'll let you know after a couple of more shaves. Smile

I've been pressing hard on my cheeks against the grain, and I can't feel anything 4 hours later. It might be worth the 'danger' if it continues to produce these results.

I had a similar experience. Shave was close, but it just wasn't comfortable to use. Too much blade chatter, I think. I stuck with the R41 and sold my Tech. If you like SEs, you might try an MMOC (with a PTFE blade). It's probably close to the R41, and much more smooth than the Tech.

Thanks for the tip, Head Shaver. I'll have to dig out my MMOC and give it a whirl-it's been a while.

MMOC is an absolutely fantastic razor and those PTFE GEM blades are excellent, especially after the first couple of shaves.

I found the Ikon Tech to be handle sensitive.  A shorter heavier handle made it bite less for me.

This is what my experience has been, Michael. The shave with an Ikon Tech is filled with the most trepidation, but the reward of the amazingly close shave keeps me coming back to it. It is my most blade-forward, chattering, tugging DE (and I'm an aggressive razor junkie), including the Muhle R41 2011, PAA DOC Evo in stainless and Le Coq caged comb. I love the thing, and it's a beauty, to boot.

You might try a lighter handle if you have one. The Tech is by far the most demanding razor I've ever used but it certainly does deliver a stellar shave.

I love how subjective this hobby is as I find the GEM MMOC to not even be in the same level of aggression as the Ikon Tech or the R41. The GEM is a milder razor compared to those two latter ones. I have had some wonderful head shaves with the GEM MMOC, and the few face shaves that I have had with it definitely illustrate how milder it is than the two other razors. Shy

Thank you, gentlemen. It came with the OSS handle, but I have some titanium handles, and I think I'll take your advice the next time I shave with it. It's almost 10 hours after the shave and press as hard as I can North to South, I can't feel any stubble. Normal pressure South to North, nada. I have to press quite hard ATG to feel any stubble. No irritation, either, but I hope I haven't taken too many layers of skin off Smile

I think it will be relatively mild razors for the next couple of days.

BTW, how does one tell if the blade is 'chattering'?

I agree about the MMOC, not remotely in the same league. I'm not particularly a fan of the R41 though, I find I can get smoother shaves with equal efficiency with other medium aggressive razors (Shake Sharp, Pearl OC, Toro Mastiff, shimmed Rockwell on 6).
