I love how subjective this hobby is as I find the GEM MMOC to not even be in the same level of aggression as the Ikon Tech or the R41. The GEM is a milder razor compared to those two latter ones. I have had some wonderful head shaves with the GEM MMOC, and the few face shaves that I have had with it definitely illustrate how milder it is than the two other razors. Shy

celestino, I remember how you used to say that your face couldn't handle the GEM blades at all. It seems that things have changed.

I asked Joe from razorock what his most aggressive razor he makes is and he mentioned that it's probably his mentor razor: https://www.italianbarber.com/collection...razor-head

for $7, I'll probably pick one up.  has anyone tried the mentor?

I don't have the Mentor, Andrew, but I have the SLAB and tried it out for the first time yesterday. Italian Barber calls the SLAB 7.5/10 on the aggression scale. When I first loaded it up, I thought the blade gap looked huge! It doesn't appear to have much, if any positive blade exposure. There is definitely some blade feel, but not insanely over the top. A 2 pass shave produced about what I achieve with a 3 pass shave with most other razors. I would recommend this razor head, but unfortunately it is out of stock on IB currently.

I think that the idea of a more aggressive razor for someone with sensitive skin holds a lot of credence. Using good, solid technique and a really great lather along with a more aggressive razor should lead to less irritation with fewer passes. IMHO

andrewjs18, Have you ever tried a vintage Gillette New Improved Tuckaway? I was shaving with one of these for a while and really enjoyed the shave. It seems to lean more toward the more aggressive razor definition. That was the razor I thought about as I was using the RazoRock SLAB.

am I crazy for thinking maybe a more aggressive razor might be the ticket for a comfortable shave for those of us with very problematic facial hair and skin?

I think someone else mentioned this on this forum in another thread but I cannot for the life of me remember who it was or in which thread this was discussed.

with all that in mind, what are some good, aggressive razors to try out?

Andrew, I have pretty sensitive skin as well. I actually get better shaves with the R41 or a Fat Boy on 8 than I do with something like a superspeed. It's pretty much the exact opposite of what I had expected.

As long as the soap is slick and protective, an aggressive razor is excellent for sensitive skin. (At least mine!)

Picked up the Fatip Grande this morning. First time I've used it in quite a while. Probably the best shave I've had in the past few weeks.

Brian, the GEM blades are only working with my head shaves and not with my face shaves, unfortunately. Shy
I am expecting a few milder SE razors, next week, so I'll experiment with them to see if they are better on my face than the Micromatic OC, but I highly doubt it as the blades don't agree with my face, for some reason.
I'll keep you updated. Shy

Apologies if this is already posted in this LONG thread, but it bears repeating again and again.

Charcoal Level 1 Closed Comb. Fabulous "aggressive" razor for sensitive skin.

I am just amazed by how great this razor is.

Enjoy it, Andrew. But I would caution extreme care. I didn't look intimidating, but for me it requires more care than the R41, Fattip, or the Futur opened up all the way.
All the best,

No contest really. The Tech has positive exposure at every angle. The "safety bar" is purely ornamental.
