just had my 4th shave using a muhle r41 that bobusa graciously sent to me to try out. I must say, I'm quite impressed! I'm still dealing with a few spots of irritation from my oneblade core, but overall, I've had great shaves with the muhle r41!

Nice Andrew. It's a great shaver. The R41 is really well designed. I should pull it out.

There's a lot of chasing unobtainable stainless steel and even titanium razors these days. I think I have used most high end (and priced) 'game changer' DE/SE's currently on the market and none of them hold a candle to a Merkur Progress or Mergress.

It's all in the blueprint and architecture. Wink

honestly, I think my issue was chasing the 'mild but efficient' razor that everyone suggests to people with sensitive skin & coarse hair. I've tried many mild but efficient razors and while some were definitely better than others, I never really had a wow shave with any of them, I don't think.

now I'm on a quest to acquire a few aggressive razors to try them out..

If you are planning to try something else, try the Fatip. Affordable, brass, and just a step below the R41.

The Fatips have pretty annoying plating and alignment issues. My favorite aggressive buy right now is pictured (formerly the SABI and Toro Mastiff). Fabulous handle, perfect plating and alignment, a bit less aggressive than the R41, I add one shim for additional stability and it's terrific, an ATT H1 at a silly price. More often I swap the baseplate with the $8 Pearl OC (RR Jaws) for a shave more aggressive and efficient than the R41 (but way more manageable than the Ikon Tech).

Andrew, apologies if this question has already been asked and answered, and I missed it in reading through the thread: Have you ever shaved with a Feather AS-D2 paired with a feather blade?

Another random thought I'll add that worked for me in reducing irritating is realizing too much lathering with the brush, and having soap or cream sit too long on the face also highly contribute to my face being irritated. My face does appreciate a nice good face lather but I then need to get to work quickly. For pass two I don't even use the brush again, I just squeeze the lather out of the brush and apply by hand.

I have a feather as-d2, yes. it's one of the better mild razors I own, for sure. I feel that the r41 gives me a closer shave with 1 pass without having to try to push it to 2 to be somewhat cleaned up.

Fair enough, then I have nothing to add. Glad to hear the R41 is working well for you!

the feather as-d2 is probably one of the razors I'll hang on to as I try out some more aggressive razors.
