Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

I’m pretty sure he is spending less time on the basic finishes. It’s the only way the waiting list is speeding up, I don’t imagine the list is getting any shorter. My basic brushed razor definitely wasn’t finished like others I’ve seen. Machining marks and I don’t mean under the cap but on the WR2 baseplate. The handles frankly didn’t look finished. I picked up one in the upcharged satin and the difference is night and day. Flawless as expected.

A shame as I prefer the old brushed finish and hoped the basic would be the closest match. The new satin doesn’t quite match when switching handles. It’s very much a high polish and not far off mirror but brushed.

Let's not forget James added an assistant in the shop who at this point might be helping with the basic finishing of the razors.

It’s Inevitable that with high demand for a bespoke item ultimately requires faster production methods,
First upgrade is Tara in the office plus now an apprentice to reduce wait times,
The ‘Wolfman’s apprentice’ shall no doubt learn the trade in regards to quality control but some sub std finishes may slip through, this would be normal in most business moving from bespoke to high productivity.
JD always puts the customer first & accepts criticism in finish & accepts returns, no worries there.

If only the Originals had serial numbers…….
Alas, Wolfman razors are no longer a true bespoke one craftsman product, does this matter?………

My WR2 Ti doesn't have a serial number but it does have the blade gap stamped on the back by Wolfman. Plus it is Ti which is no longer offered any more... 

Some more of my observations today of the WR2 1.45 OC, paired with WRH2 90mm solid, using a fresh feather blade again.
I lathered up with SV Dolomoti 4.0 into thick coating with a Duke 3 Manchurian brush, and prepared to attack my minimal stubble.

The first pass I went WTG/XTG on cheek and jawline area, and then WTG through neck. The shave was very comfortable while cutting fairly close, but not leaving my face 100% smooth. It was definitely DFS territory, and I could have called it a day.
The way that stubble grows on my face, to get a really smooth shave, I typically need to go ATG along my jawline/check and neck areas. The WR2 1.45 in this instance didn't enable me to achieve a 1-pass shave WTG/XTG closer than the r41, but much more comfortable and minimal blade feel.
For the second pass I went ATG through my neck area, it felt comfortable, I was probably over confident and buffed a bit too much. Afterwards I realised that soft area under my chin on neck was sweating blood. There was no pain or discomfort, I only noticed a problem had occurred when I saw red in the mirror. I'll approach that area more carefully next time. I had no problems buffing around more resilient areas like chin.
I was able to do a third pass mostly ATG excluding that newly-irritated area, very comfortable.
Most likely it was my technique let me down today, and not the equipment. The likelihood of me ending up a bloody mess with feather is higher than other blades.

I'm still very happy with my WR2 1.45 OC choice !

  I ended up with a 1.25 OC that I like or every time I use it but it is a lighter TI version. Makes me wonder if I would fight against a high Gap OC or Dual Comb

Tara is running cover for James pretty good. If it ain't on the menu, you ain't getting it. Totally sucks. I ordered a head only, for a friend. I think I'm officially done with Wolfman. It is not the brand it used to be. No accommodation, no longer single handed, etc.

He is operating his company like a factory, now. Unlike artisan..

I just received my 'proceed with order' e-mail. Exactly 4 months. Waiting time is getting shorter. From the looks of it quality of the basic finish seems to be suffering.
