Is there an easy way to tell the different gaps on the WR1 without taking measurements?

Nope.  Not that I know of.  Feeler gauges are the only way to be certain.

I looked for feeler gauges on google, that were the exact gaps. They can be had, but very expensive. I know guys have said they buy a regular set and put them together to make up the gap. Relatively inexpensive, but I'm dubious as to how accurate a reading they're getting. YMMV.  Smile

I already sent Loot a photo of my patent pending design about a year ago.

Well, honestly, the next logical step in DE is a WR1 devette. I'm not even remotely interested in that one.

I've considered selling it all and buying a 7 day set of Max's blades but I'm not interested in the maintenance of skraits.

I'm firmly entrenched in the DE world.

Why dubious? They are designed to be stacked to determine gaps on just about anything. At least, that is my recollection from my machine shop classes. Granted, I wasn't the best student.

Every Wolfman I have measured (or other DE) with a feeler gauge has been pretty accurate. I do however use a NIST certified feeler gauge but even with the cheaper ones I have laying around it was pretty close. Enough to let you know if you own the correct Wolfman gap.

With what experience I've had with leaf type feeler gauges putting multiples together, when measuring such close tolerances leaves room for error IMHO.

The NIST certified would be better, but to measure a few razors one time doesn't seem cost effective to me. Thinking of how easy it is to move the edge of a DE blade, even when clamped down between base plate and top cap ... I'll just trust James knows what he's doing.

I was thinking more for secondhand razors, I'm sure the new razors are coming out in the right gaps. I was offered a razor for sale but owner had no recollection of the gap...

I gotcha. I have the cheap gauge and they only see my razors so there is no chance of bad edges/bending from prior incompetent deployment. I got them not to double check DuFour but to check myself. Ive generally kept my heads on the handles they were bought with but after looking at my earlier photo, it seems I may have swapped two around. With a .10mm minimum gap difference, cheap gauges are a no brainer to get right.

Also, checking gaps on BST razors is not a bad idea. I know of several that were passed along as something they weren't.

Lotsa good reasons to have a $6 set of gauges in my den. Plus, my limited skillset to use them offsets any built in tolerance issues, no? Ha!

Lots of good thoughts about the Gap checking situation.
I do see what you mean Jimmy that does look like a nice tool but an expensive little dude.
I'm probably just need to get my inexpensive set of gauges out and go through some razors for scientific purposes, of course. Also only use mine for razors nothing else.

Thinking back to November 2019 we had a discussion on blade gap measuring as seen at the link downpage.

Jump back a page or two for more if you want more info. Starman has a pic of his snap on feeler gauges. I guess I'll pick up a set.

Starrett 270TCAL Taper Gage Inch and Millimeter Graduation with a NIST-Traceable Calibration Certificate with Data, 7/16" x 6-1/4"

I'm becoming more of a skeptic as time goes on, especially regarding amazon.com

Price on amazon.com: $173.29 sold and shipped by/from amazon (and UN-available)

Price on Starrett.com: $129.00 each

https://www.starrett.com/metrology/product-detail/270

I guess lots of people believe amazon prices are the best for everything, kind of like Walmart and other similar retailers ...
Just my 2-cents .... worth...
