Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

There are some members and former/active forum administrators that have a special relationship with James. And I'm not talking about this forum which was fairly new when all these were happening. When people were almost "begging" for one, those wet shavers were buying Wolfman razors in bulk. Aluminum, stainless, ti, colored ti, other exotic metals, you name it. When members questioned how these people were getting them so easily, the Wolfman-friends answered that they knew James for a long time, when he wasn't so famous in our little world. I also recall a special project that someone got more than 10 full-sets mirror polished Wolfman razors with his initials for his best men and the same amount of Paladins, when was virtually impossible for the average wet shaver to acquire 1!

There are friendships in this hobby as there are in real life. Don't fool yourselves. Yes, there is an inner cycle. Some people will always have the advantage. Old members that frequent forums remember all these. Fortunately, things are getting better for everyone lately and all have an equal chance to buy one. But again, close friends and old clients are still a step forward. But that's life. Not jealous since I'm a minimalist and I have all I want, but some have a short memory or weren't in the hobby back then.

I totally agree and even acknowledge the special relationship status in a prior post because I am certainly there. The accusation I was was specifically rebuffing is...alerting friends to drops with exact times. I still would like to see some proof or first hand knowledge.

Edit to clarify....James has made concessions to me during the process of normal ordering. I don't get to order when I want...and only sometimes what I want. I stand in line just like all of you. Outside of pending orders, my e-mails went unanswered too.

Well, some have a more special relationship

They used to order when they wanted and whatever they wanted. They have confirmed this. I don't consider making little concessions a special relationship though, at least the way I mean it.

As long as people are acknowledging LOOT James I’ll say that not only did he assist me in getting a few of my Wolfman razors back when there were drops he’d inform me if someone was selling one that he knew I was looking for which included a NIB BBS1. He also sent me some to use in my Shave Off thread which gave me the opportunity to use a lot of gaps in both WR1 and WR2 heads. He’s brought a lot to this thread which has become the most informative place to pretty much find out anything Wolfman razors.

Looking back I’ve had a lot of Wolfman razors in my den that I both owned and was lent. Moving forward to today after selling all but 3 I’m a lot more selective on what I buy especially after getting my first Titanium Wolfman. With one more Ti to get whenever the opportunity comes up is the time my last SS leaves the den and then I’m good. Unless of course if James D comes out with a whole new razor. in the future.

I will add in my many discussions with other well known razor makers I’ve never heard any comments other than praise and respect for the quality of the work that James Dufour puts out.

How he runs his business is his decision and I’m ok with that as I’ve never had a bad experience with doing business with him.

He also took two other orders via email requests from me for brass and bronze razors. The new system is much better giving others the opportunity to buy a Wolfman. The added bonus is that Wolfman used market pricing is steadily going down - hopefully it will get to the point where the resale price = original price.

You were able to summarize it much better than me.

I am just happy to be able to get them now, even if I have to wait 5-6 months,  thats ok with me. (timeless 95 and blackbird suffice me).

I think the market price has been stabilizing a bit since the waitlist approach.  As for myself, If I find the 1.15 that's coming this week too mild for my taste, i will sell it EXACTLY at the price I paid, so someone will really enjoy having an "instant" and barely used WR2, if that were the case.

That is exactly what happened with me in terms of 'poof it was gone'.

In my case the thing was still in my basket and I couldn't delete it. The payment timed out before I could hit 'enter.'

I notified him and asked if he could delete it from my basket, because I was afraid it would mess me up on the next drop.

He took the order. A real gentleman about it too.

Just finished a 1.35 shave ... superb in every way....followed by a spritz of ice cold thayers...perfection.

I think all the talk of JD's special relationships is now moot, given the new and brilliant system,
long may it endure.

However, if I had a special relationship with him, I never got the memo.

One thing I learned quickly about the man is that he is extremely consistent in words and action.

If you read some of his interviews, he says that it is important for a  brand to get new customers
and also repeat customers....but he wanted it more skewed to the former. I suspect that's why he put in
place the not so publicised 3 month  re-order clause....that was to keep the regulars from hitting the
drops and depriving the first timers. I asked him once if he cancelled orders from someone who just
hit a drop and then hit it again 2 weeks later...he said no, but he'd rather I didn't. And so I didn't.

He obviously understood that the repeat customers were getting different gaps and telling everyone about 
them...so others had a good reference from those reviews. I can tell you I found this really helpful when 
I was mulling over these difficult choices.

LOOT No way enemy number one - I've learned alot from his posts (here and in other threads) and appreciate the fact that it takes time and effort in all his posts. I'll make it short and to the point. Thank you James
