I am of the opinion that things would be much worse without the latest ordering mode. Imagine having to wait again so much time for these drops. Checking the site all day. People with very limited time can't do that. I think he reacted wisely to the excessive demand for his products and managed to control the secondary market prices with great success. Older wet shavers remember that the second a listing in a forum was going up, you knew that it was already sold. If you weren't notified by a close friend prior to uploading his listing, you had 99% no chance to get it. Many Wolfman razors changed hands only through the PM feature. Friends to friends. If you didn't have the right friends and had no time to check the site all day, you had absolutely no chance to get a Wolfman. Today it's possible to acquire one, but again you have to wait. It's more straighforward and fair to all people. There is no worse thing than having the money to buy something and not be able to make it happen due to the very limited supply and the bad ordering system.

I don't think he's a slow learner though. If he were, he would have made many mistakes all these years in order to find the best solution by trial and error. I don't think this is the case. There are other manufacturers that constantly make mistakes (not available yet you can buy it which is inexcusable, collecting funds and delivering a product of sub-par quality etc.).

One thing I really like about the James business model all these years he is in the business is that he doesn't participate in any forum, under his name and identity at least. He doesn't need to drive the demand. He lets his product and the outstanding quality speak for themselves. You know that the QC is the best, you will receive a perfect product. I really dislike it when I see makers making so many comments about their razors, I don't read forums to see their ads. We need them, but sometimes they have to take a step back. After a point it gets annoying. At least this is how I feel about the makers' presence in forums. What they suggest or comment about is not 100% objective anyway.
I was actually being somewhat smarta** with the slow/adjustable thing. Should put some smiles or a wink. Ha!

True what you say about friends, drops, and the old days. While plugging into the wetshaving underground can reap the rewards of a lot of eyes refreshing a website, you also get plugged into the seedy underbelly...which comes with it's own issues. Some people just suck.

I disagree with you somewhat on artisan involvement. While there is really no upside for DuFour to participate, I think it's good for upstarts to get there products in hands via passarounds. Positive reviews can go a long way to help them sell products. And I like having participation from vendors that's one thing that separates DFS. Vendors dont get shielded from less than flattering comments.
You're right ,vendors dont get shielded from the less than flattering comments.
I've personally felt a little bad for the vendors, at times, feeling like maybe they got a little abused, but I guess that's the real deal

There is a huge difference between abuse....and being clubbed with truth. I try very hard to not abuse...but I've no issue with truth and the club. In either hand.

I do appreciate the candor allowed on DFS because that is the real world. If you can’t handle criticism, you should not be in business in my humble opinion. I think criticism makes a better perfectionist. Anyway, I kind of miss the thrill of the drops and hearing who got through when and what each person was able to order in that extremely short window. Yes, the no more drop thing gives more people an opportunity to get what they want but for me, it was the thrill of the continuous “try”! I really hope he does do a new list for titanium and some other metals soon but we will see.

Well I did say a little abused so maybe not so big a difference, such as choice of particular words.

Drops ... if you're old enough to remember The Wide World of Sports intro .... "The thrill of victory, or the agony of defeat." That was drops to me.  Smile

I like it that some razor vendors are available to answer questions and update the status of their products. YMMV.

I prefer the waitlist method. I wouldn’t own a Wolfman if it was he was still doing the drops. The idea of having to work and compete with others to spend my money never appealed to me.

Same with me and I HEAVILY criticised him when he switched to the "friends and family method" of "random drops" (which the real close people to him already knew the exact drop times)  so 90% of the users that wanted one, were out of luck.  Now we can all have one, if we want one.   He should have never abandoned the waitlist method.

Not to argue, but I've chased Wolfman razors since Jan 2018. I was deeply immersed in the underground of obtaining his razors. Several of the guys had a closer relationship than I had with him....and I never, EVER heard of a drop being announced to anyone. No heads up on specific days, let alone exact times. If you have some solid evidence of such malfeasance, do share. Please.

The same groups of my friends also chase other specific brush drops too. I only know of one American knot tier who told his friends of a drop specifically to poke a new American knot tier in the eye on the exact same day as his inaugural drop. That's knot the only time hes done it either. His business, he can run it any way he wants, just like DuFour. I find it shady and bullcrap frankly. In fact, that's part of the seedy, slimy underbelly of the "gentlemans" hobby I referenced a few posts back. Some people kinda suck. I'll admit, if you have proof, my opinion of DuFour would certainly be tarnished.

Does James have favorites? I'm sure there are guys with direct pipelines and honestly, nothing wrong with that. Actually, this is probably how he selectively hooks his friends up. I'm just guessing here, are you?

I know you didn’t quote me specifically but I can understand how someone can think that there is an inner circle conspiracy. When the same users are always posting their 12th or 15th newly acquired Wolfman razor on a random drop that sells out in seconds, well I don’t know. I would be lying if I said I never thought of it like that sometimes and I just moved on to other stuff.

Edit: By saying someone, I didn’t mean herbert7890,
I just meant anyone looking to buy a Wolfman. Rereading what I wrote, it seems like it or maybe not. I’m tired... I apologize.
