Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

It just ocurred to me that we can all be on different time zones,
EG: my 9/6 8pm Canada local time order was actually 9/7 4am UK time,
However, my first & second confirmation was still confirming 9/6 order.

I placed mine around 12:30 AM EST on 9/7 so maybe that has some play?

As for 1.05 and 1.55 yeah seems like the perfect combo to me. 1.55 for all passes whilst the 1.05 is for touch-ups and multiple buffing on tough spot.

My 9/6 google form was sent sometime between 9 - 10 pm EST.

I wish you all receive your invoice soon. James such a great guy to work with even with me asking for a ton of weird stuff that didn't pan out haha.

I submitted mine around 10 EST on 9/6. I haven’t received my invoice yet. Fortunately, I have enough razors, so it’s not a huge rush.

Well I’m happy to report that the first shave with the 1.25SB was uneventful in the best way possible. I’m fresh off an extended period only using a 1.15SB exclusively so that experience is fresh in the mind. I detected a hint of increased blade feel. It was there but not monumental or mind blowing but slightly more present. The razor was extremely smooth but I felt that way about the 1.15 as well so we are really splitting hairs here. After trying the WR2 in three sequential gaps it’s easy to see how this head geometry is tolerant of so many gap choices while remaining smooth and usable for a wide variety of users. This is a head design that’s a great example of how gap size alone doesn’t tell the whole story with a razor. I read earlier in this thread that it was someone’s opinion that a double jump in gap size would probably be necessary to see definitive difference in performance between heads and in this instance I may agree ( I’m only one shave in on this gap). I found a more perceivable difference in going from the 1.05 to the 1.15 than I did from the 1.15 to the 1.25. All in all I’m super happy and can still see enough of a difference between the heads I own to appreciate their differences. I’ll spend the next few shaves using it with a 90 mm solid as that’s my preference...after that I’ll use the 3/7 hybrid which is a little more delicate to see if there’s any difference.

I got my first Google Forms e-mail confirmation on 9/6 at 9:50 pm ET. Second one came directly from James’ email address on 9/20 at 11:58 am ET, that said, “PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. You will be contacted again to confirm these details. (Changes can be made if needed)”.

Still waiting on the final confirmation email and invoice.

Wow, you submitted your Google doc order exactly one hour before me. If he’s going in order I must be coming up pretty soon.

I have always doubted you fools talking about higher gaps being better.
BUT
I am enjoying my 1.25SB (machined) way more than my 1.15SB (polished). The feedback is more proportional to the actual aggressiveness in 1.25, I get a lot less alum/alcohol burn, face feels better over the course of the day. I am still not getting BBS (beard on my neck is very particularly weird and stubborn) but that's fine, I can work on it. Now I am mildly curious about 1.45 and other crazy gaps. But as I am daily 3 pass shaver, 1.25 should be plenty, I think.

That's a very insightful and helpful observation! 

The 1.15 is definitely a great gap and an excellent razor on all fronts. My only vintage razor...a Gillette Red Tip
Superspeed (UK) is perhaps a tick milder, and I imagine it delivers the shave a 1.05mm gap would. I have no doubt
going up in gap by 0.10mm will show some difference but the question for punters is, is it worth the substantial cash outlay?

However, I've grown to be a  fan of the higher gaps in WR2... when I jump from a 1.15 to a 1.45, the difference is palpable and
more to my liking. The audio feedback is substantial and the razor mows down growth with a lot more authority, without ever
feeling threatening. If anything,  I find the end result from the 1.45 to be more gentle, as there is very little buffing to be done.
I was toying with 1.25 myself, to have a two gap difference between razors... but finally settled on 1.55

Bottom line is, they're all bloody amazing...it's just a pain, costly and now near impossible to acquire a few gaps in rapid succession
to see what works best for you. 

Playing with various handle weights has also led me to discover that I prefer a head heavy razor...because I just hold the handle
with the lightest touch and let the weight of the head do the work.
