Yes you are correct in the increase of .10 per shim ballpark,
The shim would sit between the blade and base plate,
Cutting blade under the top cap, shim between blade and base plate,

I've no experience with adding shims, but it is a good idea. Especially to determine which gap suits you best if you're planning on another order. So I would suspect using a specific known size shim stock would be the order of the day. Perhaps automotive feeler gauge stock ?

If you snip off the sharp edge of a DE blade, 1 blade is approx .1004 increase in gap

Here is a quick shim example, good scissors will do the trick, handle with care..

Guys, I want to try this. So, I cut off the edges on a de blade and do I place that blade below or above the "cutting" blade? I want to simulate a 1.05 gap in my .95. I guess I use one "snipped" blade. Then when loading into the top cap on a wr2, I first load the "snipped" blade, then the "cutting" blade, then the bottom plate? Thanks.

I have a mirror polish 1.15 I'd like to bump up a bit (maybe 2 shims)....but not if it might scratch the polish.

That's a valid point.  Makes me wonder why someone hasn't came up with a shim an inexpensive shim kit from razor friendly material. Probably not alot of demand for this. 
   Of course it would say: Use at your own risk!

It is an interesting point,
However, I think it is highly unlikely that a shim made from a razor blade is any more likely to mark the polish of a razor than a blade itself,
As long as the shim is not narrower than the base plate contact areas......no problem..no risk....

Furthermore, using scissors to cut a blade actually compresses the metal of the blade as it sheers therefore no sharp edges or burrs to mark any polished surfaces.

Why on earth would it scratch? You put blades in if normally, you're just adding a blade.

Too few blades. You need like five. You see, the first blade pulls the hair, the second pulls it a little further...the fifth blade actually cuts it.

I cut a plastic playing card and it worked very well.

No risk of scratching the baseplate.
