I'm not a fan.  It is the only Ti WR1 I've tried but the material was not kind to the head like it is with the WR2.  The WR1 94SS is a fantastic shaver. It has lots of blade feel and it's consistent.  There is no question where the blade is at any time. It's super efficient yet very comfortable and forgiving.

The 94Ti has more blade feel than the SS and it cuts closer.  It has the face feel of an iKon Tech, to me.  It just feels sharp. It hard to describe. It's not comfortable, dare I say harsh? The only other JD head I didn't really like was the WR2 1.25OC in SS.  It was similarly harsh with no benefit of extra efficiency over the SB.  At least the 94Ti gained efficiency with the sacrifice of comfort.  I know there are some guys that like the feel of the iKon Tech.  The 94Ti is for you.

I had hoped Titanium would improve on a good thing as with the WR2 does in any gap.  The WR2 may give up a little bit of efficiency to it's SS counterpart but it makes up for it, to me, with a more comfortable face feel.

I have not run the Ti94SB vs Ti135SB side-by-side but my feeling is the 94Ti cuts closer.  It could just be the harshness makes it feel like it's cutting closer.  I can run them at the same time, if anyone cares.  I'm not real sure I care to load the 94Ti again tho, unless it's for science. Smile   The 135Ti is a vastly superior razor and produces nearly the same result.

In the WR1 SB head, .94m gap, I certainly prefer the SS. No question.

Knowing all of that...I would still like to try an 86Ti, hoping it may be better.

So I recently got the awesome opportunity to shave with the Ti94 and then a few days later the SS94. I can’t explain why, but I found the same thing LOOT - the feather in the Ti was a bit rough for me, but it performed great in the SS. The Ti performed great for me with Polsilver and Nacets though.  The SS was great with Polsilvers also, haven’t tried a Nacet in it yet.

For what it’s worth, here’s my impression between the two from a recent shave:

4 days growth, GD preshave. Stirling Island Man soap, SS94 on 7XL, Polsilver, Island Man Splash, GD rejuvenating serum.

Wow.  The 94 just impressed me so much with how smooth it is for the efficiency level. Hell, I'd consider it smooth for a mild razor, but this thing is far from mild - it chopped down my 4 day growth with ease WTG. Against the grain, it's butter smooth, but cuts so close. It's so smooth I can comfortably hit my trouble spots (neck, ATG on edges of my mouth, upper lip) with no irritation at all, but a BBS shave. The blade feel is nice and consistent, and playing with the angle gives a very comfortable shave with good feedback.

From using the Ti94, I'd say the SS isn't better or worse, but maybe an easier razor to shave with. Not as light and nimble as that Ti on the short 80mm handle, but I found the extra weight to be more intuitive.  The Ti is so light, it requires a precise touch to get the close shave it can give without applying too much pressure and getting too close. The SS on the other hand, balanced on the large XL handle felt very natural in "letting the razor do the work."  With my technique and even the short time since using the Ti94, I couldn't tell an efficiency difference.  I do believe the Ti has a bit softer face feel, but only slightly so.  I think the Ti may be able to provide an ever so slightly better shave, but requires more skill to achieve it.

Overall, both are awesome. My biggest problem now will be waiting for enough stubble to shave again!

Good stuff, Justin. Thanks for confirming what I felt, I thought I was losing my mind there for a bit. I agree with everything you wrote. It's just odd why a Feather works in every other JD head...but not the 94Ti. Feather/94SS is a great combo tho. Maybe JD was onto something when he started quizzing me on SS/Ti in a 1.45 WR2. I still wouldn't do a 145 in SS tho.

The SS94 on a 7XL is probably the best combo I've tried and it's certainly the best looking too. Everything about that handle is superb. Speaking of photogenic...you should post up some pictures when you get a chance, next shave maybe. And keep us posted on how the SS94 performs in the long term for you. Waiting on stubble is the worst part of having some of these razors. I find a 48hr regrowth is minimum. There just isn't enough after 24hrs.

Well I haven't scored a WR-2 .... yet Rolleyes but I feel qualified to opine since I've got the BBS-1, and WR-1 in .61 OC, .61 SB, .74 DC, and .86 OC. I've thought about selling one or another that don't work as well for me as the ones that do, but damned if I can figure that out. I let my whiskers go for a day or two and try the various blade gaps with various blades, and they are all really efficient and smooth. It's as if I could have stopped at the first .61 I scored and I'd be fine.

Unfortunately I'm afflicted with that collector bug and the curiosity to keep 'pushing the envelope' trying to find the optimum combination of head, handle and blade gap. I notice the variable in blades more than anything. I've got most, if not all, of the well known and loved blades, but some days, whether it is me, the blade or my technique, are better than others. I'm probably going to go for the .125 if I ever hit James' site at the right time.

If I had my druthers a DC in .115 OC and .125 SB would be my choice. Might be the best of both worlds. I hope the day comes when I get the opportunity to find out first hand. Smile

Does anyone prefer the 98mm handle ? I was thinking, if I ever get to 'grab the brass ring', and score on the Wolfman site, of going for the long WR-7 with the hollow option to offset the added weight.

I had the opportunity to try a long titanium WRH7. Good, but the standard length looks better, more proportional.

This is a pertinent point, I think I will go standard then. If I ever get the opportunity !

To clarify, form is more important than function then?

I've got the SS WRH2 handle that is hollow and 80mm length. I couldn't ask for a better handle.

Well, the longer 98mm handle is, to me, an unknown quantity. If I had hundreds of dollars to throw around I'd get one of each, but as it is I have to restrain myself and get one, or the other. I know what the standard length/weight is like.

For instance, I have the Guerrilla with the hollow handle. It's 'alright', but I prefer a weightier handle. If I were to get the 98mm, the only reason I'd consider the hollow option is figuring that the extra length would add more weight than I would want.

One reason I asked the question to begin with was the hope that enough guys who had tried both options would respond. Of course there is a limited population of people who have shaved with a Wolfman, let alone had the opportunity to try all of the options.

I have an 80 mm wrh2 as well, but it’s solid. I wish it were hollow because it throws off the balance on the slim wr1 head. Fortunately, I hold the bottom of the handle anyway, so it works for me. I hope to get the wr2 head one day to pair with the solid handle since it’s a little heavier than the wr1 head.

I find in general, that I prefer the 90mm handles regardless of the maker. That said I do not like the wrh7 with the wr2 head. It’s not a good match. I would not attempt the 98mm simply because I prefer shorter handles. For me it doesn’t get much better than the wrh1 and 2 at 90mm, although I do enjoy my 3/7 hybrid at 96mm
