Only if you become a slave to the hobby/lifestyle and let it get to you.  It is what it is.  I guess my priorities in life are different.

I only say this because I know people that were supposed to be my friends and let something as stupid as a razor come between us, if that's not pathetic, you tell me what it is.

Does James make one of the best if not the best quality razor on the market today the answer is probably yes. I have the BBS 1 and a stainless steel standard bar and I actually like the way the BBS 1 shaves better because it feels smoother on the face. That being said there are other razors that shave as good or even better than my Wolfman and those are the Timeless razor, I have the scalloped head, the Blackbird and the Rockwell 6s. The build quality on all those are wonderful but still a notch below the Wolfman razors but as far as shave and availability goes there's no need to wait for a Wolfman when you have so many other choices as well as some of the ATT razors. And don't forget all the new wonderful SE razors that  are now on the market So the choice is yours. Each person has to decide for themselves.

I've come here to say the same thing myself.

I'm a one-man show, and although I may hire a former co-worker, I don't know if that's enough.

My outlook has always been that if I remain working alone, there's  only so much work I'll be able to get done.   In other words if demand is strong, the competition is where customers will go when I have nothing available.    This should be the outcome.

But unfortunately, it's not the outcome.   My lack of availability is causing strange problems.    Some of the comments in this thread are both disturbing and outright offensive.    I don't get it.

If you want to wait, it's your choice.  I don't advise it, because other options are available.

I just emailed James to advise him to avoid this noise. As you can see, he reads these threads. He's a human being. I encourage all of us to email him directly with our issues, rather than voice them on a public forum. I've seen many of you encourage disgruntled customers to contact the vendor directly before airing grievances publicly. I endorse this advice.

I consider you all gentlemen or gentlewomen, and among my unseen internet friends. Please take this in the spirit in which it's intended.

So if the world revolved around me I would raise my scepter and declare the following:

Leave the wait list open no matter what.

Whats the worst that could happen?  If you are number 1,234 you will be waiting a very long time.  Are you ok with that?  Cool, then sign-up and sleep well knowing you are on the path to a Wolfman at some point. You could view your spot on the waitlist at any point and watch your progress to the front of the line.

Walt Disney used psychologists to figure out a way of pleasing customers waiting in long straight lines.  They found patrons could not see the front of the line thus they did not know how long their wait would be. They started to employ switchbacks noting that folks receive a small measure of satisfaction each time they turn a bend and were close enough to see the front of the ride itself. They were happier knowing exactly how far they had to travel until it was their time to get on the ride.

An open list would be more satisfying then not knowing when you might get that magic golden ticket to order your Wolfman.

Chant with me... OPEN OPEN OPEN OPEN Smile

I own two razors made by James (Wolfman WR1-OC and BBS-1) and while I understand the frustration and anger, it is incredibly low to attempt to besmirch his name and reputation over an undesirable lottery result. These razors are not worth getting this upset over. Seriously, very few things in life are worth getting that upset (Patriots losing SB42, ISIS, etc.) and I'm quite sure a shaving implement doesn't even register on the scale of anger-worthy things.

If I were in the position of the ~280 "losers" of the lottery, I'd be done with Wolfman. Blackbird, ATT, or Timeless would have my money by this time. The only difference is I wouldn't get angry enough to start making stuff up on the internet.

They're not worth waiting 2 years for either. Nevertheless, I know that a lot of people have waited that long and still can't get a spot on the list. They are a little upset because some people seem to have 2 or 3 of them and will sell them to you on eBay at massively inflated prices. Is it really that hard to see why people who are willing to wait for a couple years for a razor are upset when it begins to look like the only way they can get one is to pay ridiculous prices to people who are obviously buying them to flip them for a 100% profit?

I don't even know why I am commenting since I would never wait 2 years to pay $300+ for a razor.
