I was burned out on college rums by 30-40 years ago. What are some good sipping rums for a bourbon/rye drinker?

I never got into rums but Foursquare Rum seems to be very highly rated among bourbon/rye drinkers.

One of the guys is big into bourbons. He said he likes the regular line. But he really likes the double oaked.

Another guy there said all the big bosses at his job only drink Woodford double oaked.

I’ve only been drinking bourbon for a little over 2yrs now. So I’m still fairly new to upper end bourbons. But I can tell that its quality stuff. Reviewers better than me say they get flavors of oak, molasses, syrup and vanilla from it.

This was my first time trying a heavy oaked bourbon. So I can’t compare it to any other oaky bourbons. But I did get some of that sweetness from the last few sip’s. I’d say it gives a good full flavor on the mouth and palate from other bourbons I’ve had.

I was lucky enough to bring back home about 1/3rd of the bottle. So I’ll try to comment more about this bourbon in the near future.

I’ve never tried Woodford Double Oaked but I’ve heard great things. Old Forester 1910 is another double oaked bourbon that’s similar in proof though and I enjoy that one. If you’re interested in something higher proof, Peerless Double Oak is fantastic. Cheers!

William Tarr Manchester Reserve 114 is a 7 rear bourbon/rye blend that’s really good, but quite expensive. Only the lower proof expressions have different batch numbers, so read the batch number as just a code for the expression. Regardless, it IS tasty, but it’s not a daily, and the competition at its price is VERY steep.
Good nugget and to. Eyes on it now. And agree with you on the 4. Great stuff and interesting distillery they we they handle the yeast. I love rye's and wheated bourbons. And good rums. Hmmm. Maybe I like everything.

I first toured Four Roses in the middle of the night when I was driving for a Bourbon chase team (probably my favorite stop). Later, I toured it during the day. It’s fascinating to compare 4R, with their multitude of yeast/mash bill variants but consistent aging, to Buffalo Trace with their limited recipes but widely varying rickhouse conditions.

For me, overall, I like the stuff coming out of 4R more than what BT puts out. Not that they're bad, I think too much of their stuff gets over-hyped.
