Not a hard puck, but Stirling probably gives a shave most similar. And comparably priced.

Oh, there are soft soaps, both artisan and mass market, that give the Fine old formula soap a run for its money. But, being triple milled (or at least apparently so) it lasted forever, making it extremely cheap to use, even at $12.00 per puck. Moreover, I have to hand it to Mr. Fine, his scents are very good approximations of the classics he is copying. The problem with the 21st Century formula (putting performance issues compared to the old formula aside to avoid that black hole) it is twice the price out of the gate, and being a soft soap doesn't last as long.
Agreed. I wasn't suggesting Fine and Stirling were the absolute best. Just saying the feel of the blade against the skin were similar. And whips around carelessly.

Shave 52

Woke up with my face looking like it had been chewed by rats. Something clearly went wrong with yesterday’s shave. Only way to discover the cause is by digging down to the bare bones. I’m going to use only the most basic kit. Today I skipped all the preshave or postshave products, and I limited myself to just one light pass, with the grain. I’ll stick to this timid routine until the damage has healed. Then if I feel bold, I’ll add elements.

That’s one fine scent with performance to match!

Two soap sets I will never forgive myself for not purchasing:

Ethos - King of the North
MacDuffs/Aylsworth - The Northman

No worries on the King of the North it will be one of the first Fall/ winter scents this year and I’ll be talking with Sean at McDuffs next week so I’ll ask if he plans to make The Northman again and maybe  give him a little push.
