Long ago I had a tub of Mystic Waters Poggio dei Pini and it was AWESOME.  I don’t know how you built the scent of heat but this one had it.  When I used it I was transported back to August summer childhood, walking along the wagon road we called the “back lane”that we used to bring bulls or horses from the Lloyd place down to Headquarters in Elba.  The lane is lined with juniper post fences and the ground falling away to the east was sage covered while the rising ground of the west was sage and waxy leafed bitter brush.  The sun is high and hot and all the scents are baked.  I smelled those woody shrubs and the sticky, tarry scent of sticky aster.  Each footfall rising a puff of dust.  The locusts buzzing. Just enough breeze to keep the dust off.  Over atop Independence Peak a thunderhead builds but it won’t bring rain here and its cool ozone-laced scent is miles away.  No, here is heat and dust and cooked wood with a whiff of pine falling on the katabatic air out of Poison Hollow. Ah, I’m there right now!
Well that soap ran out and I bought another only to find it as floral as a bridal bouquet.  What?  You kidding me? I was as heartbroken as the day my horse keeled over backwards stone cold dead.  There was no mental trip in this one!  Yet in the background I sensed the things I liked about that first tub but that retched floral!  I set it aside with the lid off to see if it would settle down.  Well, it didn’t and I threw it in the bottom of a box where it’s been for probably over a year.  I dug it out this morning and found that much of that obnoxious floral is gone and my brain was able to squelch its floral note to,get, down to the good stuff and I traveled”.
It’s not as good as the first tub yet but perhaps that scent is coming?  Anyway, I don’t feel hoodwinked anymore and who knows, maybe a year from now it’ll be full fledged Cassia County!

HoosierShave, I'm sorry to hear about your computer. It’s really frustrating when things like that happen and it disrupts your focus. However, I’m glad to hear that you’re still making progress on finishing Far Afield. I can relate to “losing” those last bits of soap down the drain. It happens to me too, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Lipripper660, I had a similar experience with Poggio dei Pini. The sample I tried was amazing, with strong woody notes and a herby scent that reminded me of sagebrush. I loved it so much that I ordered a full new tub. However, after the first shave, I realized that it smelled like a bouquet of flowers smashed all over my face. I didn’t have the patience you’re showing. I used it as a hand soap for a couple of weeks, but eventually decided to pitch it.

Yesterday, I finally made a breakthrough with Spitfire’s almost-empty container. It was an exciting moment when I saw light shining through the plastic at the bottom, but I don't really care loading from the donut. So this morning, I scooped out all the remaining soap and rolled it into a ball. Then, I mashed it back into the tub, creating a mountain-like shape in the center. To complete the alpine illusion, I added three or four twists from the menthol mill to give it a frosty appearance. The shave was chilling, and based on what’s left, I think I’ll have about ten more cool scrapings like this.
