Long ago I had a tub of Mystic Waters Poggio dei Pini and it was AWESOME. I don’t know how you built the scent of heat but this one had it. When I used it I was transported back to August summer childhood, walking along the wagon road we called the “back lane”that we used to bring bulls or horses from the Lloyd place down to Headquarters in Elba. The lane is lined with juniper post fences and the ground falling away to the east was sage covered while the rising ground of the west was sage and waxy leafed bitter brush. The sun is high and hot and all the scents are baked. I smelled those woody shrubs and the sticky, tarry scent of sticky aster. Each footfall rising a puff of dust. The locusts buzzing. Just enough breeze to keep the dust off. Over atop Independence Peak a thunderhead builds but it won’t bring rain here and its cool ozone-laced scent is miles away. No, here is heat and dust and cooked wood with a whiff of pine falling on the katabatic air out of Poison Hollow. Ah, I’m there right now!
Well that soap ran out and I bought another only to find it as floral as a bridal bouquet. What? You kidding me? I was as heartbroken as the day my horse keeled over backwards stone cold dead. There was no mental trip in this one! Yet in the background I sensed the things I liked about that first tub but that retched floral! I set it aside with the lid off to see if it would settle down. Well, it didn’t and I threw it in the bottom of a box where it’s been for probably over a year. I dug it out this morning and found that much of that obnoxious floral is gone and my brain was able to squelch its floral note to,get, down to the good stuff and I traveled”.
It’s not as good as the first tub yet but perhaps that scent is coming? Anyway, I don’t feel hoodwinked anymore and who knows, maybe a year from now it’ll be full fledged Cassia County!
