Crema da Barba (Santa Maria Novella) cool tobacco
Shave 11 ・ 207 g left

I’m hooked on this stuff. I wake up in every morning and wonder which of my dozens of soaps to use and the answer keeps coming back, Crema da Barba. I like it for a lot of reasons. It’s as slick as oil on ice, its tobacco and menthol fragrance smells perfect for this time of year, and it’s generous: just a wee dab makes a face full of lather. What’s more, it brings back great memories of Florence. But maybe best of all, it makes even my wimpiest razors perform like Formula One whisker whackers. For most lathers, today’s Merkur 42C is just too mild. I have to scrape and scrape to get clean. But that’s not the case with Santa Maria Novella. Two easy passes leave me polished and painless.

Southsider: thanks for your detailed rundown on the different species of Gillette Platinum blades. I had no idea there were so many. Guess I gotta try them all now.

TommyCarioca: nice to see that Kathmandu again, and it's great to hear that it's working for you. Enjoy, brah!

Lip, I think it is the oud that is hooked me. Neroli would love it.

Kathmandu is a mild woody floral – so mild in fact, I had to put my snout right down to the puck to smell anything. The label says it contains African geranium oil (pelargonium graveolens), which is supposed to smell strongly of roses. Alas, that scent is barely here. The description also mentions tobacco flower, coffee, oud, incense, and carnation. Honestly? Those notes may have made it into the mix, but they’re present in such minute doses that nothing is distinct. Kathmandu just smells like a tame floral soap that would be safe in any hotel room anywhere in the world. Big disappointment. At least the excellent quality of the lather redeemed the shave.

Tommy, I have owned it, and agree it's quite a nice scent... One of the best TFS that I've used. I think I sold it just because I barely ever used it... And the tiny container... Hate that, Smile
It's got some incense action in there, that's why I like it... Definitely dreamy/transporting. Keep enjoying!

Neroli, we are brothers from another mother. I just moved it to an old Stirling container. Lol

La Toja Cream

I always enjoy La Toja.  It does what a shave cream needs to do; it's incredibly easy to load; and it has a clean, refreshing scent which I don't think is easily mistaken for much else.
HighSpeed, are the cream and aftershave the same scent as the soap stick? Thanks!

To my nose (which is not the best), the cream and stick are more similar to each other than either one is to the aftershave, but they are similar to the aftershave.  The aftershave is stronger than either the cream or the stick.  --  I hope that helps.

It doesn't seem like MacDuffs get as much love as they should.  With the beginning of autumn, Autumn Cabin is a great soap to start the season with.
