Damaris

Old Romanian brand. Currently owned by a Swiss company and marketed across South Eastern Europe countries. As far as I know it is now produced in Turkey and Poland.

Damaris is a biblical figure, a woman who embraced the Christian faith after hearing a preach in Athens (just found this info).

Have no idea if a connection between the shaving cream and that biblical figure exists. What I do know is that the scent is familiar, probably my grandpa shaved with Damaris. Smells clean, that's about all I can tell about the scent. Performance.... a solid 6.5 (lathers easily, you get nice volume in no time but it's not really creamy, the emulsion is fairly stable and doesn't dry out in the first 5 minutes, glide and cushion are decent, post-shave is ok). It sells for about $1.5 in local stores.

Taiga : Barrister & Mann, v Omnibus

Beautiful ultra slick lather. A nice blend of spruce , balsam, and resin. Don't get much pine at all. Off the puck a little bit earthy, but that was gone upon lathering. This is very reminiscent scent wise of Eleven's Blue Spruce. The base is firmly in the pole position of the regular rotation.

Morocco (Tallow + Steel) cade bomb
Shave 10 ・ 64 g left

The other day I was bemoaning the loss of cade oil in L’Occitane’s Cade shaving cream. Well, today I’ve found my consolation. Tallow + Steel’s Morocco is the grungiest take on cade I could ever hope for. This is full-on juniperus oxycedrus oil that's been only lightly diluted with cypress and oakmoss. It’s intense, it’s smoky, and it’s sticky. In other words, it smells like burning tar. I love it, although I have to confess, it’s so strong it would be hard to use it more than two days in a row. One more thing I should be clear about. My tub of Morocco dates from 2018. Since then Tallow + Steel have revamped the fragrance. The current version of Morocco appears to be a woody rose with no cade in the recipe at all. Pity. Like L’Occitane, they’ve let something good get away.

There are two reasons I am not jumping in and one that almost negates the two. The first one is the recent guidance that this is a mass appeal razor like the Henson. That makes sense as his other razors have unique shave properties that a novice would have difficulty figuring out. Second, and worst, is the vague guidance on plate selection. All I ask is at what point does the plate provide just barely positive exposure or which one is neutral so I can grab the next one up. I might want a three or a four, but I am not saving any money playing the Karve guessing game. And that brings me to the one thing that almost negates everything I just typed, price. It is a good price, if I knew which plate to get.

An aside, I don't appreciate having to find out about the release date on forums when I have an account and thought I was signed up for news letters.

If there was ever truth in labeling, this soap is it.  I generally avoid gourmand scents, but this one reminded me of my dad.  Health issues restricted his diet, but he loved root beer.  Beyond that, the performance is excellent.
