Seville — Barrister and Mann
Creamy, dense lather and a scent so strongly appealing, each use begs the questions, "Why don't I use this more?" and "Why don't I own more soaps from this house?"
Nocturne, anyone?
However much you may acquire, you will always wish to acquire more; satiety is a dream which will always elude you. — Bertrand Russell on shaving soap
Astoria (Moon) wet fir
Shave 1 ・ 170 g
I bought this soap for the label. You have to admit Moon makes some nice looking pucks. I like the old-fashioned typography and the weathered look that remind me of the tins I found in my grandpa’s cupboards. But the soap inside is thoroughly modern. It’s a fairly firm tallow soap whose performance reminds me of Barrister & Mann’s white label formula. Easy to lather but not too thirsty, it laid down a good layer of cushion and had ample glide for today’s light aluminum razor. It finishes just a little waxy.
The soap is named after the town of Astoria, Oregon, located at the mouth of the Columbia river. If you’ve ever seen the movie Goonies, you’ve seen Astoria. The town is surrounded by lots of fir, cedar, pine and water, and that’s just what this soap smells like. The soap also smells a little like a Christmas candle, but luckily there’s enough sage and moss to keep it interesting. There’s also a wee drop of menthol. Nothing to chill your bones, but enough to help you feel clean and refreshed.
Thanks to AFG008 for suggesting today’s combination of razor and blade. The Henson AL13+ is a very mild razor, but when you load it with a new Nacet blade, it gives a close, easy shave.
