For a while there Barrister & Mann was using Colt-Ainer jars for their soaps. I loved their bright white color, nice heft, and smooth threading. So I was surprised when recent shipments from Cooperstown came packaged in Parkway Plastics tubs. Frankly, I like both jars, but the Colt-Ainers always seemed a little classier. Well, that was my opinion until today, when I dropped my box of Barrister & Mann soap and spilled a dozen tubs onto the hardwood floor. The Parkway tubs rebounded without a scratch, but alas, my old faithful Bay Rum, housed in Colt-Ainer’s hard white plastic, cracked in two.

I agree with you . I prefer Colt over Parkway but there are different plastics that both companies offer. I started out using Styrene plastic jars for my 4 oz size as I wanted it to look compatible to my 7.5 oz PETG Crystalline jar ( MDC ) jar I get from France but that jar would crack so easily and a vendor of mine mentioned Colt plastics and I contacted them and mentioned my issue and also that I wanted the same quality in my 4 oz jar as in my jar I get from France so they made me a PETG 4 oz jar. They offer different plastics. Maybe Will was using a plastic that is more brittle. I haven’t had any feedback from customers that their jars were cracking or breaking. Wills using the HDPE jars from Parkway and they won’t crack or get distorted when exposed to heat which sone thin walled jars do. I don’t think it’s about availability as I’m sure Will knows the lead times at Colt. Parkway jars are almost always in stock, less expensive by quite a bit but I agree they feel less substantial in hand. Honestly if all things were perfect I’d rather be using glass not only from an environmental standpoint but I love the feel of a glass jar in hand. My Crystalline plastic jars are the closest thing to Glass and from I’ve read the best plastic as far as recycle-able but in the end their still plastic so a part of me feels guilty for using them.
BTW good post!
After my heartbreaking Trumper fiasco of yesterday I decided to go for a much less expensive shave. Razorock Saturnia got the nod. 10 bucks vs Trumpers 30 bucks. What I got was an inexpensive container that is wide enough to load from, keeps the soap fresh and smelling great, and is still not super ugly. Not super upscale like a Meissner Tremonia jar or a Trumpers wooden bowl but hey, it worked. The soap is most likely a TFS made soap and it is perfectly serviceable. Slick. Protective. Predictable. But that scent! My oh my, it rivals Eucris for manliness. Good job razorock.
