I have to confess, I've never looked that closely at your containers, but the other day I did pick up a four-ounce tub of Ethos Fresco by mistake thinking it was a jar of Martin de Candre Vétyver.
I agree. I prefer Colt over Parkway, but there are different plastics that both companies offer. I started out using Styrene plastic jars for my 4 oz size as I wanted it to look compatible to my 7.5 oz PETG Crystalline jar (MDC) jar I get from France, but that jar would crack so easily. A vendor of mine mentioned Colt plastics, so I contacted them and mentioned my issue and also that I wanted the same quality in my 4 oz jar as in my jar I get from France; so they made me a PETG 4 oz jar. They offer different plastics. Maybe Will was using a plastic that is more brittle. I haven’t had any feedback from customers that their jars were cracking or breaking. Will's using the HDPE jars from Parkway, and they won’t crack or get distorted when exposed to heat, which some thin walled jars do. I don’t think it’s about availability, as I’m sure Will knows the lead times at Colt. Parkway jars are almost always in stock and less expensive by quite a bit, but I agree, they feel less substantial in your hand. Honestly, if all things were perfect, I’d rather be using glass not only from an environmental standpoint, but I love the feel of a glass jar in hand. My Crystalline plastic jars are the closest thing to glass, and from what I’ve read, the best plastic as far as recycle-ability, but in the end they're still plastic, so a part of me feels guilty for using them.
My favorite container is still wood. I get these five-ounce acacia bowls from a local market (they can be found online, too). They're about five bucks apiece, so they're a little pricey, but they're just the right size for most of my refill pucks and also for Saponificio Varesino's boxed soaps. They feel great in my hand, don't break when dropped, and since they're four inches wide, they accommodate most of my brushes very well. To keep them in shape, I rub them down with a drop of oil from time to time. I expect they'll last me a lifetime. After that, they'll biodegrade gracefully. How do I keep the soap fresh? After each use, once the soap's had a chance to dry, I just turn the bowls face down on the shelf. Wish they had a lid, though.
