After more use, I will see how else I can describe the scent.

I’m glad you said a few words about this one! I was thinking it smells like the old school Wrigley Gum in the Yellow Pack, full on sugar Juicy Fruit.  I thought maybe it would really fun and strong, guess not huh?

Eucris is about the creepiest smelling cream I own. Dark? Like sin. Strong? It can cover a thousand virtues. Pleasant? I have to confess, once or twice a year, it perfectly suits me. Today, for instance, I started my lather just as the sun drooped behind the mountains and a dusky haze rose up out of the jungle. From the bathroom window I watched as the evening clouds turned pink, then orange, and finally blood red. It was gorgeous display and unusually brilliant. When I glanced outside once more, I thought I saw something odd – a swirling cloud of sand glittering in the twilight. I hadn’t ever noticed anything like that before, at least not since I was in Bucharest. The wind had fallen, and it was perfectly quiet. I couldn't explain the movement I saw, so I flipped off my light and studied the fading outlines of the ironwoods and screwpines. Out of the silence and the shadows a large, long, rectangular form slowly took shape. It was followed by a grating sound and a glint of red light in the undergrowth. What's this? Kids carrying their boards to beach? Not at this time of day. Boars rummaging in the bush? No, they make an infernal din. Then as I peered into the deepening murk, I could almost discern a manlike form garbed in a dark suit that was far too warm for this climate. He stood perfectly upright as if his back was stiffened with iron or age. In his hand he held a gleaming cutthroat, and on the lid of his box – if I'm not mistaken – I could just make out a brimming, black bowl of Eucris. He looked at me and bowed slightly as if he recognized in me a fellow pognotomist. Then, quite suddenly, his expression changed. The smile was replace by a leering look, and he reminded me of nothing more than a cat who's ready to fasten its claws on its prey. I slammed down the shutters, reached for the light switch, and peeked over my shoulder just to be certain I was still alone. (Can't trust your mirror in a situation like this.) In little while I'll regain my composure, but you know when it’s fully dark and the sound of knocking is heard up and down the street, I won’t be the one who runs for the door with the basket of candy. I have every expectation of being greeted there by one finely groomed vampyre.

A pinch of camomile gives this cream a lemony boost. The other notes are lavender and cedar. Altogether it’s bright and woody, and it makes for a very cheering shave. The lather comes out low and fairly slick, but it’s also drying. I think I prefer the hard soap version of Havn since it seems to hydrate my skin a little better. (But if it's lots of good smell that you're after, then the cream is the way to go.)

Good gracious. Looks just like my neighbor's cat – battle scarred but good for another decade at least. And looks like you've been reading Kieje's Japanese Grotesqueries. Where do you turn for your marvelous inspiration, ExtraProtein?

Fun and strong….maybe not. But not that it’s a bad thing. I’m not sure how much my opinion would change on the soap if the soap scent strength was increased. After a couple uses, it’s maybe a 5 out of 10 on scent strength. I think I was hoping quite a bit for that root beer feel but it’s beyond a simple soap say with France oil to make it smell like soda. I’m actually quite happy it’s made up of different notes and like I said, it’s a bit less gourmand and has a nice balance to it. Copalli and St. Martin’s Land personally are a bit more strong and fun to me. Clown Fruit is still refined to my nose. Color me impressed even if I don’t love it now or yet.

Ethos, Green Fresh (sample).

My first encounter with an Ethos soap, courtesy of one of my fellow wetshaver compatriots. I can see my wallet losing some weight over the next weeks. And this is not even caused by the shaving gear acquisition disorder that many of us suffer from, it's just the logical thing to do. It is just too good. Monthly bills can wait! My wife is back at the homestead in County Kerry, Ireland so I am on a plane a lot these days back and forth but she spent five years in the States in western Massachusetts as a youngster where a lot of Kerry natives emigrated. She lived on Falley Drive in Westfield named after Richard Falley 14 names down on the Revolutionary War stone. What a remarkable life he lived. When I called her in Ireland over the weekend and told her about Chad’s project she gushed about her time at St. Mary’s primary school and church steps from the cemetery.

Locked over the weekend when I stopped by but when I have more time will get the key from the Athenaeum and explore. Beautiful rose, grass scent. A really nice one in a great soap base. Wonderful story and donation from IrishC
