If I were to walk into a store and have the opportunity to smell Badlands, it would immediately go back on the shelf and I would be searching for coffee beans to cleanse my olfactory palate.  Having said that, boy am I glad I didn't walk into a store to smell this one first.

This scent needs several revisits before developing an opinion.  After the 3rd or 4th time of opening/sniffing the tub, I started to pick up a cherry-vibe.  The best thing I can compare it to is cherry-scented pipe tobacco.  And not the scent of pipe-tobacco smoke...no, this is bury your nose into the unlit tobacco leaves and take a deep breath!  Not being a big cherry-tobacco fan (back when I indulged in a pipe 3 to 4 times a day), I really didn't think was a scent for me.  But, once lathered, the scent is a bit more subdued.  It's no longer sticking your schnoz in the tobacco leaves...it's more like someone in the room has opened the tobacco jar and is packing the pipe.

Poggio dei pini reminds me of being horseback on an August day working uphill through the junipers and into Savage Hollow.  The sun is hot making me grateful for the wide-brimmed Resistol on my noggin.  Grasses are yellowed from the summer sun. Locusts are buzzing incessantly that to the town folk sound like rattlesnakes. Shrubs are done with their spring growth but are not ready for the scenesence of fall and proffer their woody scent to the mix.  But the hot pine!  Not the calming pine of a cool morning or bracing pine of a snowy day, but hot and heated pine.  The smell of wood in a fire before it starts to burn.  Pine tar, but not quite there yet.  Heat waves quiver in the offing making a mirage of the cattle ahead. It’s hot and dry and  dusty and I long for the icy springs in the hollow ahead.  My Cayuse knows about the water too and I don’t need to urge him forward.  But right now!  Right now everything is good and the scent smells like summer.

M&M Sandalwood
My first purchase of Murphy and McNeil - I think 2 years back, resulted in the soupy soft "cream" product. In fact, they broke down even more on the shelf. Given that I am a triple milled fan first and foremost - I never reach for the stuff. Another attempt is presented. A firm croap, decent scent, good lather - not so bad. It won't usurp the hallowed ground of SH, MdC, SC, WK, or GD, but it does have rotation potential. I have , bay rum in the same formula - but not sure about the fragrance. Off the puck - maybe not... . WIll try soon.

Have a good Friday night boys
