And, on the other hand, my taste of scents mesh very well with T+S.  I confess I bought Madagascar by mistake and the ylang ylang I can't take and I did find Boreal too "sweet" but I've loved others (e.g., Sicily, West Indies, Merry, India Bay (love it)).  But, Lipripper600 what, to you, does Classic 2 smell like?  I can't get a full sense from the ingredients. What I really want to know is whether it is at all sweet or perfume-y?  As I said, Boreal disappointed because it smelt a bit too sweet, rather like birch beer to me.  (BTW, am going to put up my unused Madagascar soap and AS for sale soon; anyone here want dibs on it, message me.)

I don’t know what this soap smells like because I just don’t do Tallow and Steel anymore.  As stated, good base but I have yet to find a scent that really interests me.  Other makers I do purchase are predictably pleasant.  Can’t help you with the scent on this one but I can share that if TommyCarioca reports it smells like pinesol, I would believe him. Boreal sounded great. To me it missed a Boreal experience by several miles. Maya smelled like a crummy Mole. Morocco billed as a Smokey rose really piqued my interest only to find no Rose present. I quit trying after that knowing full well it was tickling someone else’s fancy and I am glad for them.
Got it. Emphatically not for you.  Sorry about mentioning you as I misread the indented quoted quotes.

Posting Freak
DRH Arlington

Sad day in wet shaving - there is a ripple in the force. Fine has discontinued 2 scent lines and their associated products.: Santal and Fresh Vetiver. . WtH are they doing. I am mad at myself for not stock piling my inventory. Will not happen again. I am going to take inventory and horde the stuff I really like. Boys this is heartbreaking for me. That was probably my number one wet shave fragrance. Nero and Lip like it as well I think. Maybe Dom can dupe that smell and we will have an even better base, packaging, and stability with that Santal Absolute smell.

Oh, DRH was chosen to cheer me up. Need something bright. I bought 250ml of TF Neroli Portofino to bathe in.

Dang it, 2020 really really sucked [Image: 5163d6f4fb418febfe940ae6845e5a88.jpg]

Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
No. 89 (Floris) citrus fougère

If you like unwrapping packages on Christmas morning, you’ll love diving into No. 89 when it comes in the mail. This is the most elaborately presented soap I’ve ever bought. Between me and the puck, I counted two printed boxes, three layers of wrapping paper, two layers of bubble wrap, a rosewood bowl, and enough tissue to get me through another TP famine. I’m happy to say that finally unveiling the soap wasn’t in the least anticlimactic. I popped open the elegant wooden lid, took a whiff of that rich soapy cologne, and fell in love. Nutmeg, orange blossom, ylang ylang, and some genuinely good smelling sandalwood filled the room and seemed to turn our knotty pine paneling into mahogany. Old fashioned? Sure, but it still smells really elegant, and unlike so many other British shave soaps, No. 89 loads without any effort and makes a very nice lather. Thanks, Nero for pointing me in this direction.

(NB: this is the most recent version of No. 89, whose list of ingredients begins with potassium palmate. Some shavers have been disappointed with earlier formulations of this soap.)

You're welcome, Bouki. Glad you enjoy it!

Perfect descriptions throughout, and you had me laughing with their packaging, it's like you need a snack break in the middle of unwrapping it.

Agree, it loads almost as quickly as MDC or DG Milksteak base.

And Mikes is just vetiver and I like it like that.  There is a kiss of the lemony vetiver here but nutty is the bigger note.  Smoke and dirt are not really in this one but that is just fine because as they say, variety is the spice of life.

If vetiver plays lead guitar in Black Velvet, then Black Pepper is the lead vocalist Big Grin

Yesterday's shave - Fireside is a great scent and the base lathers very well.  This one has been in the den since late 2016/early 2017 and has been used sparingly since it may not be made again. [Image: 1kTspx4.jpg]
