What soap/cream did you use today?

Barrister and Mann excelsior base is a sweetie.  Creamy, easy to make, and slick.  Back in the day, I used to ride the snow cats with the groomer crew after the hill and lifts shut down and ski a few runs by moonlight.  It was nice to be out on the mountain alone (sort of).  So quiet and cold.  So when B&M released Eigengrau (the color you see in the absence of light) and the story was it smelled like moonlight on snow, I was in.  Great shave. Great soap. But moonlit snow?  Nope. To me this is a scent more reminiscent of spring where snow banks give way to crocus.  Wet earth coming back to life.  Beautiful scent but to me not a nighttime snowscape.  Oh, it’s staying around for sure but it’s awaiting spring.

Crabtree & Evelyn Lavender shaving cream (vintage), another excellent underappreciated one. For some reason it has become sort of pink in color.

Beaudelaire t. (Barrister & Mann) spicy fougère

This is nose candy – the earthy smell of a clean forest floor overlaid with anise and leather. I haven’t tried all of Barrister & Mann’s scents, but of the twenty-five I’ve sampled, Beaudelaire is the most magnificent. If anything could lift the craft of soap perfumery to a real art, this is it. I love every bit of this fragrance, though I admit it may be a bit bottom heavy. To add a little brightness, pair it with Caron’s Le 3e Homme. That follows the same trajectory but sans the leather. (My tub of Beaudelaire was sold by West Coast Shaving through a special arrangement with Barrister & Mann.)

Wholly Kaw Fougere Mania

TommyCarioca, that's a gorgeous shot! The colors in the wood and curtains really compliment the label. You may have seen that I'm on a fougère binge lately. I've eyed this Fougère Mania several times wondering if I should add it to my stable. I love Wholly Kaw's performance, but their scents are sometimes a little wonky, at least to my nose. What can you tell me about the smell of this soap?
