Vétyver v. (Martin de Candre) citrusy vetiver

What does vetiver smell like? I googled that question this morning and came up with the following responses: citrus, lemongrass, ginger, fresh green grass, licorice, carrot seed, gasoline, balsam, peanuts, decayed vegetation, wet cement, spices, wood, leather, metal, musk, rust, smoke, ash, scorched earth, damp earth, dry earth, roots. As you can see, vetiver is a very complex fragrance. Well over 100 molecular components contribute to the overall aroma. And of course not every vetiver-scented soap conjures up all these notes. So how do we make sense of this? One way is to divide vetiver into four broad categories that can be mixed and matched: (1) citrusy, (2) smokey, (3) woody, and (4) earthy. Using this arrangement, I'd say that Martin de Candre’s Vétyver is citrusy-woody. For a vetiver, it’s light and clean, easy on the nose, and easy to like. The essential oil was probably extracted using CO2, which yields a grapefruity, zesty vetiver that can be easily enjoyed every day.
