Cèdre-Patchouli v. (Le Père Lucien) cedar, patchouli
Mint and patchouli come from the same botanical family (lamiaceae). Up front they don’t smell much alike. Patchouli can be dark and dirty, while mint is the epitome of perky freshness. But this morning I got curious about what they may have in common. To find out, I dusted my new puck of Cèdre-Patchouli with seven good shakes from the menthol mill. Yowzer. I can’t say it was hallucinogenic, but it was certainly an eye-opening contrast of dank and dazzling.

The grapefruit is most prominent to me and I struggle to identify the flower scent. A total guess on my part but maybe it's lavender??? Overall, it's a great scent. The grapefruit is definitely front and center but it's not overpowering. Whatever the Fiori note is, it has a calming affect on the grapefruit.
BTW, your question really got me curious about the flower note. Unfortunately, when I went to the Mystic Water website, the soap is no longer listed. Hopefully it's a seasonal as it would really be a shame if this one is discontinued

It's grapefruit and flowers. The overarching note is grapefruit and the flowers (lily of valley) round things out. So if you're familiar with TOBS grapefruit, it's like that except finished and fuller and better rounded and complete. The floral accord doesn't present to me as flowery but as complementary. It is a wonderful and masterfully done citrus scent. And I just checked her site and this one is no longer listed. Whyyyyyyyy.

Now here's a quandary! I looked for some old soaps that have dust on them and found this puck of de Vergulde Hand, a workaday soap from the Netherlands. Well, I just had a crummy shave like I haven't had for years. Had to break out the styptic pencil and tell it how things worked. hey, with a alum block and some raw Shea butter I'm up and running now but wow, it looks like I'll pass on tomorrow mornings shave. What was the issue? I've used the soap many times before and although it's not I'm the realm of top fire aoaps, it's workable. Scent is awesome. Slickness is just fine, I think the issue was a week-old blade. I picked up from Nero some Gillette Platinum and this is the first blade I've used. The blade is a week old and still felt sharp. Guessing it's past its prime though and nicked me up a bit. So I still think the soap is fine, my technique is fine, just change the blade and it'll be good.
