Eufros Tobacco shaving soap (tallow). The soap made lather that was good but not great; it may improve as I get used to it. Its fragrance is somewhat sweeter and more 'sappy' than I had expected but is pleasant, and I think it will grow on me.

It is a great soap base and a pretty good vetiver. Certainly vetiver forward and I get black pepper and some citrus on top but a clean vetiver. Scent strength was lower medium but that is often the case with samples and the full puck tends to be much stronger. This is more along the lines of fine green than salters French. Like it.

Cèdre-Patchouli (Le Père Lucien)

This morning I had a hankering for spot of dry crisp cedar, so I grabbed this pot of Cèdre-Patchouli. I was a little surprised, but not disappointed, when I realized that CP is mostly patchouli. The cedar's there just to keep it all clean. The soap smells fine, especially on this soggy day when patchouli goes down well. One thing I can't figure out, though, is how its unpredictable lather can lead to such an excellent shave. Apart from the fragrance oils, there are only five ingredients in this version of LPL soap. Sometimes they conspire to make a thick lather, other times they offer up only a thin and brittle pot of suds. The result's always the same, a good close shave with a smooth finish that's neither dry nor greasy. I just wish I could figure out how to make a stable lather every time.
