I have a question about the practice of saying "add 4% for fees" - is that allowed?
Personally, I don't see the point of doing that, just add the 4% yourself.
no, it's against our bst rules:

if you see a thread asking as such, report it or send a link to myself or a mod and we'll take care of it.

Again, asking to pay for the fee's is against PayPal's terms, and thus isn't allowed. You're breaking the services agreements doing that. Paying F&F for a product is breaking T&C. It's the increasing trend to see people asking to be paid via F&F or to add the fees. With time they keep slowly creeping up. For myself I've steered clear of people's sales asking for F&F or to add the fee for G&S payment. It's saved me plenty of money. If it's something I really want, I'll pay the bit extra. I don't get it personally. Doing it on a forum site or elsewhere saves you so much money over doing it on eBay or something else. I'll gladly take the G&S ding for the added protection of the buyer. It's annoying, but it's not something I'm going to be ringing the moderators each time I see it. The only thing that makes me use eBay is it's much easier to give all the details I want in a better format. It's not easy doing that in a forum posting.
good post and agreed - I'd rather pay the extra few bucks for an item than potentially lose X because someone scammed me...and then there's no recourse since you bypassed paypal's protections, unless perhaps you get your CC company or whatever to reverse the charge..

Sounds like another artisan had credit card fraud and the item now on eBay UK.
they targeted specific owners who were looking for high-end gear like wolfman razors and expensive brushes..
Do you know if there are recognizable pictures being used by this thief?
I don't know. personally I don't really look for super high-end gear.
when this issue was first brought to our attention, I did some digging and traced some steps and narrowed it down a bit, but because I could not be 100% certain with my assumptions, I did not name anyone nor will I...I cannot risk being hit with a libel or slander lawsuit for wrongly naming someone.
we would strongly caution EVERYONE to stop sending money as F&F and just pay the fees associated by using a paypal fee calculator:

Maybe it should be a bold banner below the 'no comments on pricing' blurb...
I'll consider it.
