If they would offer the loft in a much lower height, then I would have, at least, one 30mm in my den. Alas, they do not, so I do not have any.

I am certain I have read somewhere that one of the German vendors stock Thäters with lower lofts, but I cannot for the life of me remember which one. Perhaps someone here knows?

NassRasur (Germany) can special order Thaters direct from factory (i.e., 2-band silvertip with plexi handle, not available through U.S. vendors). And the two American vendors will hunt through their stocks and come up with the lowest lofts they have, if you ask them to.

Thank you for the information, gentlemen! I may look into that, at some point in the future. At the moment, I have much too many brushes and I also don't really like any of the Thater stock handles as they are just too short for me. Shy

My Thater next to the Envyshave DFS LE brush. I don't think the handle is too short for my hand and I usually wear a size Large glove.  I know some of the handles are a bit stubby, however.

I feel the same Celestino.

This is why I have sold all my Thäter fans and all the less densely packed Thäter I have owned, which felt floppy.
All the less densely packed Thäters I have owned all had a model name starting with 42. I have sold them all.

Not saying all Thäter 42 models are floppy, but I have owned a total of five 42 model Thäter brushes and have sold them all, because they felt too floppy.

I'm now focussing on 41 models only. They are not exactly densely packed, but they are very nice perfomers and I like them, when I get too much density in my Simpson Chubby and my Shavemacs.

I loaded a DR Harris Marlborough hard puck soap with a very soft 26 mm 41 model 3-band bulb silvertip, and it made the lather quickly with no problems.

Thäters are brushes, that I pick when I don't want the backbone of my other badgers. Thäters are all about luxury softness, a softness I so far haven't found in any other badger brush manufacturer.

I totally understand your opinion Celestino, and I remember a thread I made on The Nook a couple of years ago, that ended in a discussion with some fans of soft Thäters. I still, as said, avoid the 42 models as they all have felt too floppy for my taste, but the 41 models solve that problem. They are still borderlining my limit for backbone and how floppy I want a brush to be, but they still are on the safe side for me - and I always enjoy my shaves immensely, when ever I use one of my Thäter badgers.

Boring handle design ?

I agree, Shavmeac can make so many great handle designs, but Thäter only wants the same 6-8 colours and 3-4 handle designs from Bernd, but I can accept that, as I don't take more than 4-6 Shave of the day photos a year Big Grin

I have had Thäters on my list for a while but never got around to pulling the trigger. Now that I got the Epsilon Krion three band 26/55 I wonder if that is where the Thäters are, backbone-wise? (Have you had an Epsilon, Claus CHSeifert ?) We are talking soft, yet I am hesitant to call it floppy. It does whip up and release lather like a champ, though.

I have owned 6 Epsilons, 3 3-bands and 3 2-bands (Vie Long made) and 8 Vie Long's.

They are NOT Thäter soft, not even close. They have much more backbone and the 2-bands for some are bordeline rough/stiff in feel.

Thäter are at the other end of the spectrum. The Epsilon 3-bands were softer in feel, but still not soft like Thäter.

Claus - Since you have owned a lot of badgers, do you know of any other badger brushes as soft as Thater? I have a Thater as you know, and I love it. I just wonder if there is another option in case I decide to purchase a second Silvertip.

As Hector said, Shavemac 2-band Silvertip is the closest to a Thäter in softness, but the 4 2-band Silvertips I own from Shavemac still is not that close to a Thäter in softness and feel, and I can't tell you why and what Thäter does to give it the special softness it has a its trademark.

Saville Row is also close, but as Shavemac makes Saville Row, it's really just a regular Shavemac 3-band Silvertip hair type, and I also own a Shavemac 3-band Silvertip fan that is close in feel to a Thäter - yet it's not the same luxurious feel as I get from my Thäters.

I haven't heard of ANY badger brush, that has the same softness as Thäters. It's why I have kept Thäters in my collection and sold all my other badgers, except my Simpsons and my Shavemacs.
