No shave for me today... but I did get mrdoug handle in the mail. It was fun working with him. I like how his 24mm turned out so much, I made another one this morning for a 26mm knot.

Here's the 26mm: (I'll let mrdoug do the honors and post pics of his new handle when he's ready!)

It looks so sharp, I'm very excited to give it an inaugural run.

Thank you again Paul for all of your work!

Razor: Wolfman WR2 1.25
Brush: Trotter Handcrafts w/ 26mm Oumo knot
Soap: Grooming Dept. Cedarwood
Aftershave: Thayers Rose Witchhazel
Blade: Nacet

Good Morning Forum Friends (or good afternoon for you easterners).

Had almost 3 days growth so went with the big gun Wolfman for today’s shave.

With the last shave I tried Grooming Dept’s cheapest soap formula (Fortis), so today I tried their most expensive (Nai) which is Vegan as opposed to Tallow like the Fortis formula. A new tub of this soap is a whopping $32 for 4 oz. Fortis is $17 for 5 oz. Thankfully I didn’t (and wouldn’t) pay anything close to $32! I snagged this the other day on the BST.

The scent was pretty light and was a warm cedar with a hint of some other note that almost seemed like liquorish. I think I would have just preferred the straight-up Cedar note.

Performance was good, but hard to say it was better than the budget Fortus formula. It did seem a hair slicker and maybe better residual slickness... but just barely. Post shave seems worse than Fortis on my skin (could be the lack of tallow?)

Anyways, it was a fun experiment. Personally, I would not pay double the price for Nai formula over the Fortis formula.

Nice shave and thoughts Paul. I think soap has got to the point I'm tired of splitting hairs on who is better and by how much. All my soaps do the job better than the Co Conk and Mama Bears I started with. Nice experiment and thoughts Happy2

Great write-up Paul.  The detailed comparisons of Fortis and Nai were very interesting to me.  As for the $8/oz price of Nai, in fairness to Grooming Dept, I think it is part of a disturbing trend, and you can easily find as much or more sticker shock elsewhere.  I have quietly passed on offerings from other artisans, including my favorites, because of higher prices/oz than Nai.

Trust me Gentlemen, for the most part, I stopped chasing the latest and greatest artisan formulas a long while back. In fact, my favorite soaps are old classics like Tabac, La Toja, Palmolive, MDC, etc. I just happened to buy some soap lots (cheap) on the BST last week and these 2 GD soaps were among them. So ya, of course I had to do a super soap shootout... for science!

No judgement Paul and you owe no explanation. I saw it was a bst purchase. I was just prompted to state some random thoughts. My Hub City is hostage to USPS but should be here tomorrow
