Yeah, I always found "wet shaving" and the more common "wetshaving" to be odd. People who use that term are immediately identifiable as traditional shaving forum members, as the term is almost never used by the general public.

I think that you are right about "traditional shaving", too. Wetshaving could be any form of shaving involving water. I have seldom heard the term used to describe shaving with a cartridge razor and canned gel, even on the forums, and never to describe shaving with a wet/dry electric shaver. It applies to both, however. It is readily apparent that traditional shaving refers to old-school gear and techniques.

I like that term because it DOES identify people in public that I can have a conversation with about it. I've found that if you walk up to ten men in public and ask them if they use a, "Safety razor," nine of them will look at you with the most clueless look on their face ever. Probably LESS than one in ten.

After reading some of this thread I found myself nodding at some....yup,'em shortenings,'em shortenings...them can make me sigh more then one time.To take every sentence longer than two words, cut it into pieces and make it consist of one letter combos and to that make every letter be a capital one...well,as most of me life have been in the world of military,I could easily think that it's from there some people have found the idea of "cutting" communication and a language to pieces,as it can be effective and logic in some situations, but njaee(no)...As most people now arn't military, then that thesis falls short.I happends to believe it's because of something else that this is so widespread and more and more common and it sure ain't for efficiency or time savings. Smile. Not exactly something that makes me go nuts or irritated, but yea,a lil sigh it creates.Luckely this isn't more common or specially connected to the shaving community then anywhere else OTN(on the net hahahahaha).Have great days ahead and shave safe everyone.

I am really tired of seeing "!!" or "!!!" or even "!!!!" Come on, folks, the razor or brush you're getting is not earth-shaking news. Dial it down a little.

Wait, wait, wait!!! Before everyone dials it back too far, I’d like to add, not an argument, but different perspective. Life is full of excitements and disappointments and everything in between for those who are fortunate to experience those highs and lows. As a witness to remarkable recoveries and heartbreaking tragedy, I’d reason to let people display those ups as harmless as they are, in this context, shaving gear, with as many exclamation points as they care to. I see people, living their lives, plans for the future, hell, plans for the afternoon, abruptly changed forever. Some will never again find enjoyment in simple things like a new razor any longer, and for some, it is the end. Life is full of inconvenience and annoyance, many times it’s harmless. If your joy is shaving or new gear, share it. This is the place! Right? I enjoy seeing forum members getting excited for a new home, new baby, or a new soap. A couple of extra exclamation points lets me know they are really excited, and that’s cool. I can feel their joy through the cold, hard internet. Again, no judgements, just throwing a different perspective out there. I hope everyone out there is able to find some excitement, small or large, and when you do, tell us about it with a run on sentence with commas everywhere, and punctuate the hell out of it!!

In a way I clearly hear what John's saying, and damn, from his perspective at the moment I agree......(filling out with dots now "Hush"),to prenounce something like a feeling on the net should NOT need tripple exclamation marks, but as most people lacks in perception and secondary thinkings, then it mote be the only saver to make the statement of "I really really like this knot" understood. Then, about punctuates and commas.....(these dots are to be read as if we sat besides eachother in the discussion Wink ),them could be damn nice if used for a "midtuned" way of making the nags,we keep here, more alive. And to that it is OFCOURSE always nice to stumble upon a soul who can use commas instead of saying cool,COOL!!! to every constipated surprice

And to make an extra lil exclamation point to that!! - how bloody boring would'nt it be if everyone in a shaving forum said - I just clamped this brush and fiddles it right now,and it's just as any other brush....or whatcha say churchilled one? WinkBalance,perception,hearing,understanding...thumbs up for both of you.

OK, maybe I'm just a grouchy old man. I have no problem with people being enthusiastic about a new acquisition, and I look forward to reading their description of just how much they like it and why, with use of adjectives and adverbs. But triple exclamation marks grate on me just like ALL CAPS sentences do in texts or emails, like they're shouting in my ear.

That is useful when trying to identify who is a fellow traditional shaving enthusiast, but less so in identifying traditional shaving to people in general. Those are two separate things. It is not only shaving, forum-specific jargon for other hobbies and special interests is equally perplexing to those not already in the know. As you noted, a lot of people are confused by "safety razor", a once common term.
