Amen to what Dave said.

That razor is BETTER looking in your photo than on the Karve sight... the Green Pops! I absolutely love my two Karve Aluminums, and I know you will too (especially considering you had one before, lol).

Yep, Personna can be a bit confusing. On a positive note, they make stellar blades. When I can justify more spending, I'm likely to pick up a few hundred of the German reds. The 4 shaves it gave were super, and I probably could have pushed it further.

That brush, while designed for the Tatara razor, also looks like it goes quite well with the Karve. You should have some stunning SOTD (SOTW?) photos ahead.

Have a great evening!

Lol. I get it all the time Mark. It's the screen name I chose, it definitely makes people think my name is Doug. My last name is Douglas, if it helps to explain. Still, a poor choice in hindsight.

Ok, now I know what you guys were talking about regarding the Personna blades. I haven’t been blade shopping for a while because I have plenty so I didn’t know you couldn’t get red Israeli reds anymore- the ones I see are all German blues now. Is it any wonder we all over buy and stockpile? You can’t count on anything these days.

If it makes you feel any better Marko,  I also had difficulty following the Personna related conversation.  OTOH I had no trouble understanding "we all over buy and stockpile".  Confused2

Sort of lopped the top of the Tatara Masamune and the MiG knot! Oops! Was trying to get the large donut of Mike's, as I am taking weekly photos to see it disappear (nerdy, right?!) My goal was to use up soaps purchased in 2021 before they get too old but I think it will be well in to 2024 before that happens! I suspect age doesn't matter, especially since these are unscented. I have a couple of vintage William's Mug soap and while the scent is gone (fine by me), they lather just fine.

Anyway, that stunning handle was restored by our very own Freddiep318ti and will be used for most of the week. I plan to use only my 4 boars in December (see thread I started in the Brush subforum) so these last few days will see lots of switching out of brushes and possibly razors. I just picked up, as Paul mrdoug noted, another aluminum Overlander, having sold the first one after about 1 month of use. At the time, I didn't see the point in having a 2nd OL given I was using the nickel-plated brass one a lot. But now you can get colors! I think I meant to get the green tipped Knopf pommel handle and I still may add one as I like the look.

It is Black Friday, and I am trying not to browse websites for shaving stuff! Slippers and shoes, maybe. And speaking of such, the great folks at Pasteur's Pharmacy were able to get my order to me this morning! Okay, they probably didn't time it that way, but that is what happened. Ohio Bob had picked up a Medium Henson AL13 and his initial reports sounded intriguing to me. Enough so that I went to the Henson site and read up a bit. Now, I had a "++" version from the BST back in October of 2021 and we didn't get along that well. In fact, after 5 shaves I sold it. To be fair, I really didn't give it a fair trial, as I had a bunch of GEMs and a polished Yates arrive the same week. By bunch of GEM razors, I am tallying 6 according to my notes. Thanks to Dave, I had discovered the joy of the Damaskeene and wanted to try them all! Now, 2 years later, I have 4 left, and had two of those replated by BRG, to show you how much I like them! But the Henson ++ got sold.

Between Bob's experiences and looking at the website, and in consulting Paul mrdoug (our local Henson afficionado), I was fairly certain that a Mild AL13 could work well for me. Would it unseat the Overlander? Probably not, but if it was decent, I'd keep it. I am down to just 2 modern DE razors, the rest being vintage Gillettes. And many places were offering Black Friday sales, so I figured if it wasn't for me I could resell it for most of what I paid. Pasteur's had a great sale going and had 1 Henson left in the color I liked best. And today it arrived in time to shave!

It worked out very well for its maiden voyage. I had a German Red on its 6th use in the head, and away we went. I particularly like the rounded corners that Paul had mentioned to me. I didn't poke myself shaving along the underside of the jawline nor under my nose for a horizontal pass! The soap continues to be Mike's Unscented for the month (it most likely will make it into December) and the first use of the new to me Tatara/Semogue brush.

Wow, they definitely delivered that fast! Kudos to Pasteur's.

That sounds like a wonderful initial report Eric. Glad to hear it. Hope it continues to grow on you! When you get good and comfortable with it, don't forget the quarter turn. For me, that is a game changer. Not sure why all razors don't have that built in washer. Lol.

Looking forward to hearing more as you continue testing. Be well and happy Friday!

Could you restate that quarter-turn idea? I seem to remember it made the razor more aggressive/efficient? Thanks!
