Hey Eric,

What do you think of the PAA brush scuttle?

I like most things about it and use it almost all winter and spring. To get the negative(s) out of the way: 1.) Ceramic, so heavier. I store it under the sink, and some mornings my arthritis makes gripping it and lifting it a challenge. I know, I could just leave it out, but I have a nice vintage shave mug that I like to leave out. 2.) Ceramic, so it chips. Yup, it slipped out of my hands one morning when I was rinsing out the lather and it now has a chip. And Murphy's Law insured that the chip (more of a flake) went down the drain!.

But positives: I love it! It retains heat well. It has a cool name! It has a small footprint in the morning, unlike the full-size PAA scuttle (which I had but let go as I found myself still grabbing the brush warmer).

The closest competition to the brush warmer, for me, is the PAA plastic travel scuttle. No chipping, lightweight, and fairly good at retaining heat if you fill it with hot water and fill the basin, too. It is smaller than a normal scuttle, so it lends itself well to being a brush warmer.

I have a customized brush scuttle from DirtyBird pottery as well as a large customized bowl scuttle from them as well, so I think I am good on scuttles.
I use my brush scuttle to soak my brush (no hot water) for the most part. I have some matching lather bowls as well that I use to hold my pre-shave soap and other shave related items.

If my scuttles ever break, I might consider the PAA line. DirtyBird pottery is no longer in business.

The Interview Shave



A little over a week ago I applied for a staff pharmacist position at a store within the company I work for that is a 7 minute drive from home. I trained at this store and was based out of there while I worked as a regional support pharmacist, and even covered a maternity leave for several months (the months that I made the move from cartridge to DE). I was notified this past Friday that they wanted to interview me, and the interview took place this morning. While it will be bittersweet leaving the store I have been at for the last 8+ years, it will be great to only be no more than 10 minutes from work. 

For this day, I decided to keep my soap the same, but switch to a brush I really like, a mixed badger/boar in a Stirling handle, and the Enders Speed Shave. A comfy and close shave with no drama, leaving me clean, smooth, and confident!

The interview went very well and I was told I have the position! It may be 3 weeks before I actually start up there, but my wife and I are very excited. The current location is 30 minutes from home, and in bad weather that can become a 60 minute drive. I will need to adjust to a longer day (going back to what I was used to doing before my current store had its hours (and hence my salary) cut). 

The hard part now is meeting with my current partner and the staff I have grown close to over the years and let them know I will be leaving soon. And while every pharmacy does the same thing, even within the same company there are differences in how that task is accomplished. So this older dog has to be willing to learn do things differently, if need be. Hopefully, I am not stuck in my ways and will adapt to this busier pharmacy's work flow!

Perfect, I will keep this in mind. And yes, shorter commute will be great. Although that means I won'd get as many books "read" on Audible!
