I thoroughly washed the pigment off until the upper part of the handle looked pale grey. I then applied a few coats of tung oil and it looks black again.

Thanks for that. I have washed it a few more times and I don't notice any more pigment coming off. I'll see if I have some tung oil around, but if not I think it looks fine for now and if the running stops I'll be content. It's a nice knot.

You just need to be careful with that part of the handle. When the finish failed on my brush, the top bobbly part that was black began to become brittle and the wood crumbled a bit. I assume this was because the wood was exposed to water without a protective coat on it. Good luck.

it looks pretty good. you shouldn't need to be doing this yourself if the brush is as expensive as it is. sad!

I agree, it is not cool... and this is my last Romera brush or knot.

I know your experience wasn't the worst on this thread or the many other threads highlighting Artesania Romera and the problems associated with him but it's just not right that customers stretching back years are having to refinish his brushes when they first come into contact with water and start to lose their protective coating. I hope he sorts his QC processes out and starts delivering paying customers what they are due. However if people keep buying from him and he keeps supplying sub standard work I don't see him changing his ways. Good luck with your brush.

Thank you! when I ordered my brush, the only experience I had with Romera was the two knots that I bought from Gustavo in 2016. And, I must admit, I did not do enough research on his brushes. Well, lesson learned. No more Romera brushes for me...

I was the same as you, all I had heard was his knots were great but his customer service wasn't great but like yourself I wouldn't buy from him again after my dreadful experience.
