Sad seeing a well respected artisan brush maker become unreliable and less than honest. Wonder what happened?

Luckily we have Brad Sears, Paladin, Wolf Whiskers, Envy and others !

I don't know if he was ever well respected , there has always been an element of inconsistency at the very least as far back as i can remember. I would need to add I've only been in this game 5 years or so. I agree with your point regarding Brad Sears etc.

Here's my story. I purchased a brush from Gustavo on November 6th. He emailed me 2 days later to tell me he didn't have the black buffalo horn that I had purchased. He asked if I would like marbled horn for 25 euros more. I told him that was fine. A couple months went by and I hadn't heard anything so I thought I'd shoot him an email to see how things were coming (Jan 17th). He did not respond. I figured maybe he was busy or out of town. No big deal. A few weeks later I saw that he posted several new brushes on his site so I sent him another email stating that I saw he had several new brushes listed and that I hope my brush is on it's way soon (Feb 13). Again, I did not hear back from Gustavo and since I wasn't sure of the time limits with Paypal claims I went ahead and submitted a dispute on February 20th (3-1/2 months after purchase). Gustavo still didn't respond. Finally as the dispute was coming to a close I had to escalate it to a claim on March 8th. Finally on March 17th Gustavo emailed me and said my brush was ready to ship. I told him once I received it I would contact Paypal and drop the claim. On that same day, the 17th, Paypal contacted me with a tracking number that Gustavo had provided them. To this day when I try to track it, all the shipper says is that the package was pre-registered and nothing has been shipped. Well, this morning when I checked my email I saw that Paypal finally got my money back from Gustavo. I'm not sure what his intentions were when providing a tracking number but not shipping my brush out. I know he's done this to others as well. I'll let others decide what his intentions were. I got my money back and will never deal with him again. It's pretty darn stupid to treat people this way and expect to stay in business. Especially in a tight knit group that we are all part of.

For crying out loud, this guy is an absolute scoundrel. In almost every case, you guys have complained about, he is trying DESPERATELY to dodge the Paypal window and keep people's money. We might need a warning bulletin or a special page for vendors like this, similar to the Wet Shaving reddit group to provide details to forumers about this guy. Just a complete swindler through and through.

I couldn't agree more, that experience was similar to mine were he ignored, delayed and basically lied at almost every turn. Whatever he said he'd do he either lied about doing it and didn't do it or he eventually did what he said he'd do 3 or 4 times longer than he agreed he would get it done. These posts are particularly damming and if he had any honest excuses or professional pride he would explain the circumstances or dispute any points. He does none of this so how anyone could send him their money in advance of any product is beyond me.

Playing the devil's advocate, Gustavo DOES make brushes. Albeit slowly, and of questionable quality. I myself have two brushes, one is stunning, the other has the wood finish degrading.

Oh he definitely does make brushes but there are far too many stories of him making them in an unsatisfactory way and in some cases not at all but also keeping the money paid to him to boot. There definitely are some people getting brushes from him and being happy with the experience, however even people I read good reviews from in the past have contacted me since I posted my story with him and told me of problems down the line with mainly the wooden handles that have not been remedied to their satisfaction.
Gustavo is also free to defend himself on this forum or any other forum he has similar complaints levied at him if anybody feels he is being unfairly maligned. He has the freedom to respond to all these accusations be it personally or publicly. Only he can tell you why he allows his good name to be dragged through the mud if he has an alternative view of events.

I also ordered a brush from Gustavo recently and had to send quite a few messages (some of which were pretty angry). A couple days ago I received a message from him with the tracking number. I checked it on the Spanish post tracking website and it seems to be admitted by the post office. Will let yo know if/when I receive anything.

Look on the bright side; that forum banning members for posting complaint will probably choose him for another LE that truly is.

The tracking number I got from Gustavo a week ago just showed "pre-authorization"...until today.
Now it shows as "accepted". I guess I'm getting something in the mail. We'll see what shows up.
