I think the email system is fine for when 22 people are interested in a shipment of 20 tubs of soap.

Personally, I think the advance notice on Twitter and the forum were the right approach.

Even without that, the email queue system only works if the recipients have a razor reserved for them (for example, if the notices were sent 24 hours before the sale opened up to everyone). The handle choice also complicates this approach.

The alternative is to send the email to everyone in advance, along with posting on twitter or whatever, stating when the drop will happen and that demand is expected to exceed supply. That way, everyone gets a fair shot at it. Since Joe uses the email notice system to gauge demand, I think this would be the better solution by far.

The email queue system implied both that early registrants would have a razor reserved for them, and that everyone would be notified and have a shot at it. Clearly, it can’t do both.

I’m not complaining, just trying to be constructive. I work in product development, and I’m sure Joe is frustrated by the situation after working his butt off for months and investing a LOT of money to try to make everyone happy.

Full disclosure: I registered for email months ago, but did not get a notice. I never really expected to, or to see it soon enough. The queue system simply doesn’t work for something like this. As the release drew near, I watched Twitter like a hawk. I started my order for a GC with radio knob at 9 sharp. As it turned out, that combo was the least popular, and was available for almost an hour, but carpe diem.

Why can't everyone just be patient and realize that they will get one if they want one?

That's my feelings. We are all in a need to get now mode. When going in you have to assume not everyone will get one. Even if the email system worked the way everyone wanted, which it clearly couldnt, which I don't blame him for, just as many people wouldn't have got one. I'm sure very soon some will be for sale on the BST or you wait it out another month and you'll have the razor. It's alot less of a waiting time than some of the other items we wait for which are next to impossible to get. Patience my friends and enjoy the gear you currently have. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume most of us have a least one decent razor we can use in the interim Wink

What I mean is that Joe himself has said that if you sign up for the notification, you WILL get one if you want one eventually. It's not a limited production razor. They're going to make enough for everybody that wants one just like they did with the SS Mamba.

I’ve never seen a “hobby” where so many grown men cry about not getting something. Whether it’s a razor or soap, it’s like clock work.

Email signup worked nicely for the Mamba.
For the Game Changer it didn't, luckily I did have a Twitter account just for following Joe...
So, it's on it's way!

I've summarised my buying experience of the Game changer on my blog. Do take some time out to visit and comment.

Great write-up. I ordered the same one as you. Looking forward to giving it a try.

To clarify my thoughts, I am fully willing to wait, and in no way whatsoever did I expect to get one of the initial release batch. And I’m completely fine with that. Patience is not the issue here for me. If I had received an email it most likely would not have resulted in my ability to respond in time.

What I am saying is that I would appreciate the opportunity to buy this razor based on notifications eventually. In the past, I have given up because a third or fourth batch will release moths later and remain available for about 24 hours, which would be plenty of time for me to respond *if I got the notification I signed up for*. Instead, I learn about the release on a forum after it has sold out again. THIS is why the notification system is frustrating in its current iteration.

I have zero interest in trying to buy a Wolfman because I know I can’t randomly check the site hoping for the chance it may be in stock one day. (I did buy a Guerilla, because it wasn’t sold using a system that I can take advantage of.) If Joe had a similar random release strategy, or even just used social media to announce the release, I wouldn’t hold it against him. I also wouldn’t try to buy his razors though. At least not for the first year or so that they’re available. But if I sign up for a notification, I’d like to get a notification, simple as that.

(Full disclaimer: I don’t know Joe personally, but I do respect his choice to deliver quality products at incredible value to his customers. I will happily remain a customer of IB... for products that are in stock. And this is one instance where I suspect I will buy the GC even if it takes multiple batches before they stay in stock for more than a day.)

I have seen too many instances where someone has decided to insult other people in a forum while adding nothing meaningful to the discussion.
