Here are my thoughts so far - As I said this is a bit premature. I feel like I need a solid week before I can give a real accurate opinion on a razor. But, I understand the excitement around this razor and hope I can do a good job of explaining what I'm experiencing, and that it helps paint an accurate picture of this stunningly effective and smooth shaver.

Full disclosure - I am a fan of Andys work. I own both the 17-4 and Ti2. If I could source an original Ti, I would likely buy that as well. My taste runs on the aggressive side. I use and love the 17-4, Blackland Blackbird OC, Timeless .95 OC. My SE experience is restricted to the ATT SE1, which I like alot. Truth be told I am on the fence with the Ti2 and am toying with moving on with it as it's too mild for me and getting some trouble spots can result in some irritation from excessive passes. Keep this in mind as you read my thoughts about this razor.

I am currently in love with this shaver. If you own or have used a paradigm then this will make sense - it shaves like a paradigm. VERY smooth and efficient. I would say its far more efficient than the Ti2, but sadly for review purposes I have not used the 17-4 much recently and so can't make much of a comparison to it. The shave is mild. Never once have I felt that I may cut myself if I wasn't careful. It works in a wide range of angles. My first shave I admit, that I struggled to find a good angle. The angle on the handle was throwing me off, coming from exclusively straight handled shavers. The technique that I honed in on today that helped me tremendously was to watch the head itself, and disregard how the handle is riding in contrast to my skin, I hope that makes sense. Being that the prototype is aluminum, and very light, a touch of lite pressure was appropriate for me. I feel like once the production model is in hand, this will no longer be necessary.

Blade selection for this prototype ALONE, again - this is ONLY with this prototype - excludes the Schick Proline, which happens to be my favorite blade. So I used the industry standard of sorts, the Feather Professional. I find this blade to be so-so. Typically I do not like this blade. BUT, this blade shines in this shaver for whatever reason. WIll shave once more on this one and then switch to Kamisori for the remainder of my time with it. I will be returning this baby, by hand, back to mohammad on Friday. As I wrote I will check in daily as my opinions change and become more concise and refined. Thanks Mohammad for the chance and I hope I can help either a customer or Andy get another opinion on this one out there!

Cheers!

More details to come, but shave 3 was one of the top 2 shaves I can ever remember. Just as perfect as they come.

Sorry for the delay in compounding on my statement I made yesterday.

I am a daily shaver and am a building contractor by trade. Appearance isn't really important in my line of work. I wore a beard for almost 10 years before I discovered wet shaving. So, I don't always make ATG passes. Usually WTG and across is more than good enough for me. But the only fair way to review a razor is to include against the grain passes. Now, I have been unable to do much of this on my neck as I always seem to get irritated by it.

First off the 17-4 was the best razor ATG I've ever used. It just glides on this pass where others skip or whatnot. I've always said that there are many high end razors that perform like paradigm on WTG and XTG passes, but where this razor shines is ATG. None of them out there are as smooth as the 17-4 ATG, even the Ti2 IMO.

So, it stuns me to say that the SE is even more comfortable ATG than the 17-4. I had the most easily and comfortably achieved, dolphin smooth, BBS shave that I may have ever had. It was incredible. Even on the most comfy of shaves ATG I may get some irritation later in the day, but there was NONE of this. It was absolutely fantastic.

Some good news is that my batch of Shick Pro-Lines fit this razor! I used one this am and it was great! The first AC shave with a new blade is always a touch rough so tomorrow should be a real treat. Anyways, thanks for reading!

What Kehole is spot on. I personally believe the SE will give any straight razor a run for it's money. At one point, I owned 80 straight razors, and shaved with many of them exclusively for about 2 years.

Nice review. It's hard to imagine a more comfortable shaver than the 17-4.

The 17-4 led me to sell off quite a few of my DE’s the Sabre had me clear out all of my gems except the MMOC now from what you are saying this razor may clean out what is left of my SE’s. Look forward to giving it a try.

OK, now you have my attention. This struck a chord with me. I have never been able to go ATG on my neck without irritation showing up sooner or later. It would be the ultimate shave for me if I were able to go ATG on my neck without irritation.

The prototype looks fantastic.  Happy2

Let's put it this way. I am determined to offer lower cost razors. For this to happen, it requires a combination of materials, design, and sales channel. That's vague, and deliberately so. I'm thinking about some new approaches, but it will be some time before they bear fruit. Whatever I do, it will have to be not only affordable, but very high in quality. Believe it, this is on the agenda.
