Personally I think the Javelin would fit perfectly in your Titanium collection of razors. Please do not read this wrong, the Diamondback is an excellent razor, but when put side by side with the Javelin, the Javelin shined. Unfortunately initial testers of the first Paradigm found it mainly too aggressive, yet to me and several of my closest friends it still remains the best Paradigm razor. I own the others and enjoy them, however when I want that perfect shave the original Paradigm along with a few others in my collection are the ones I reach for. Did you have aluminum or stainless? That design could be revived — provided it's in a light metal.
I used the SS and own the aluminum Javelin. My only issue with aluminum is one drop in the sink and I have a damaged razor, not so with Titanium.
Shavemd Thank you for a detailed and thoughtful post. I agree with everything you have written, and also with the other guys that have chimed in on a titanium Javelin. Aluminum is on the soft side, and it doesn't do well with falls. Titanium is my favorite metal for razors.
We are back to the age old debate: smoothness or efficiency? Yes, you can have them both, but they do tend to conflict with one another. In a safety razor, you are also somewhat limited by the availability of blades and the relatively steep shave angle. I've mainly given up straight razors, but there are those magic days with a straight when it feels like you just wipe down your face, and your toughest growth disappears. People see Feathers as sharp, and that’s true by comparison with other DE blades. A properly honed and stropped straight is quite a bit sharper and smoother, however, and I've got the microscope photos to prove it. As compared with the high angle of about 30 degrees when shaving with a safety razor, you are usually in the 11 to 17 degree range with a straight. The effect is both more efficient and milder — when the stars are aligned just right.
Back in DE land, where most of us live, the stars don't quite line up like that. You get a much more consistent skin stretch, and the worst you can do is nick yourself, but the trade off between efficiency and smoothness is more pronounced.
Enter Javelin. I considerably reduced the thickness of the blade guard for a better skin stretch. That pre-stretch is one of the most overlooked advantages of a safety razor. And it worked. But let's be real. That razor will shave you very close, and comfortably, but you better be on your game with technique. I got blow-torched by some testers who found it terribly aggressive, especially in stainless.
Hence Diamondback. The head geometry is the same, except for that thicker blade guard. It's a more conventional razor. It's not quite as efficient, but it's a great deal more forgiving, and it will get you to BBS quite easily. Stylistically, the handle is more in keeping with the Paradigm aesthetic. The handle on Javelin was also a bit divisive (have made some changes on it behind the scenes). For most users, most of the time, Diamondback will be smoother, and quite efficient enough. I've been using it quite a bit of late with my usual Feather blade. I rate it second in efficiency in the Paradigm line-up behind the original Titanium I, and second in smoothness behind the Artist Club SE. It's a very well-balanced design.
All that said, you guys are stimulating my creative juices. I had pretty much written off the Javelin head design as non-viable, at least commercially. But who am I to fight the voice of the people lol. I'm a little surprised, but very pleased, to see the support for that design. Maybe we'll see it in titanium in future.

that surprises me, from shave one I liked it very much, never felt aggressive at all. the handle has grown on me and is still on the razor.
“It's still a personal opinion, so do/don't take advantage of it....”
Javelin was produced only in prototype volume for a project with West Coast Shaving. Apparently it circulated far more widely than I recognized, and I'm glad to hear you guys like what you saw.
At the risk of repeating myself, wet shaving is very much a matter of personal preference. Jared from WCS wanted a stainless razor due to anodizing issues with 7075 aluminum. (A recognized limitation of the material, any statement to the contrary notwithstanding.) What I heard through Jared is that the aluminum version was vastly preferred to stainless. One guy who I spoke to personally took a dump on the stainless version from maybe 100 feet in the air, on grounds that the razor was eating his face. So I decided to go with a mellower shave.
Me yacking about this is not going to change anybody’s thinking. Give the razor a shot and see for yourselves. It's a really good razor. But it's Milder than the Javelin. I've only just put it on sale, so we should be seeing some reviews. Bear with me until then

I recently purchased the New Paradigm 2020 Diamondback and let’s just see from initial looks this is a piece of highly polished jewelry. Very well fabricated! All edges are clean and mirror finish. There is a bit of weight to this beauty and there’s the value as it isn’t cheaply made. The diamondback design is prominently engraved and stands out beautifully. Let’s get to the shave! Andy stated that this shaved better than the 17-4 in his opinion because of the change in geometry. I know nothing about that as I have never shaved with the 17-4. But, my opinion is that there is a slight bite to the razor and that’s a good thing because what you will find that this razor is incredibly efficient. I like to feel a little blade because I don’t prefer razors that are too mild nor too aggressive. There is a spot on my face that never gets completely clean even after two passes and a thorough clean up. Well, this razor solved that problem. The after math I’m proudly to say that my face was still BBS after 17-18 hours and I have a heavy beard. My other razors include Raw, Wolfman, Timeless, CG, Carbon, Rockwell and Razorock. So, what would o compare this to? Hmmmm I would have to say it’s in a class like Wolfman. Very high end in every way! So, if you’re like me and enjoy having choices in your den then this is a must have. Happy Shaving!
Pictures? Some side by sides with those razors?
