Finally starting to realize the potential I saw in  it!

This is good to see! It’s always encouraging when you find the key to getting more out of a product.

From my post of 6/3/16 - What are your disliked scents?

"Today I received Mystic Water Soap's "Lilac". It does not smell to me at all like lilac blossoms.
It has a very pleasant scent that reminds me of the smell of barber shops when I was a kid.
It is, however, an excellent shaving soap."

If I had to go through the exercises described above in this thread I would not use it.

I have had no problems getting an excellent lather and shave with it but the scent is disappointing.
Some day I may find that elusive Lilac scent. Or not.

Mickey, that is surprising as I find Mystic Water Lilac to smell very much like Lilacs. Of course, this is very subjective.
Good luck with your search. Shy

I have finally achieved the creamy, shiny, and dense lather that I was hoping to get from MW soaps. I have found that limiting the addition of water to the lather is essential for getting a superb lather. It's a bit different than all other soaps that I have because with other soaps I can always either add more product or simply swirl my brush in a circular motion until I balance off the ratio of water to soap. This is a different story though, it takes too much time to use the same approach so what I do is I simply limit my addition of water to my brush from the very beginning. Glide and smoothness were never an issue for me, even when I received an unfavorable lather my first time around. On my second attempt though I have achieved the perfect trifecta Cool
Thanks for all of the feedback that I received from everyone.

Me too! I always knew it would be a great soap. I still need to dial it in completely but it was a great shave.

I find this surprising as well. http://damnfineshave.com/thread-mystic-w...8#pid43108

We grow Lilacs. I can walk out and smell lilac in the spring in the air. The initial scent of Lilac is almost spot on to a true Lilac bush. It’s slightly off with a bit of a perfume type scent rather than a true lilac but it is very close to the real thing. Overall, this scent was very, very good for me. If you like the scent of lilac, you will like MW lilac.

It's not exactly Lilac, but its pretty good. Better than Maggards.

Glad you guys are enjoying the soap! Even when it was sometimes finicky in my hard water, I recognized its exceptional performance potential and especially post shave feel. celestino and Merkur Man in particular were very helpful in refining my technique with Mystic Water. Once my water was softened a bit, I had no problems.

What kept me sticking with it is the fact that, whether or not the shave is comfortable (sometimes the lather would dissipate in hot water), post-shave feel was always excellent and unbelievably soothing.
