It isn't only prying the blade away from the wrapper (and prying, in this case, is accurate) but the mess it makes on the inside of the head and baseplate of the razor that makes me send out ths warning.

One to add to the list of blades without glue spots is the Brazilian produced Gillette Platinum-Plus.  Besides not having the glue spots, I find them excellent blades in just about all of my DE razors.

Just a follow-up on how bad the glue dots are on the Astra Superior Stainless [blue] blades.  I used the blade for the third time this morning, in a 1966 blue Lady Gillette razor.  When I was done, I twisted the knob to open the butterfly doors and it twisted only partially.  With a very slight bit of force the doors suddenly flew open and bounced back and forth once on their hinges.  It was the residual glue (wax, actually) on the blade that had adhered itself to the underside of the head of the razor, three shaves out and having removed the blade after each shave, cleaning each razor, which I always do right after I shave, and rinsing the blade each time!  That's just ridiculous and proves to me the lack of necessity for these "holders", "stabilizers", or whatever one wants to call them.

Ironically, the combination of this razor and blade gave me an excellent shave but the severity of the glue dot problem holds me back from using these blades on a more regular basis.

The Rapira Platinum Lux that I used this morning has no glue/wax dots.

I've been using feathers, because of the extreme sharpeness. I told them after 2 shaves, because I want a sharp blade (very course hair over sensitive skin). The wax though, it's a huge annoyance.

Any suggestions on bladed that are possibly feather sharp without wax?

Thanks.

Try KAI.

KAIs are terrible (for me anyway Smile) A lot of people like them though so it's worth a shot.

KAI blades are great for me. But, for whatever the reason, the first pass on a new KAI blade always feels rough. As soon as I start on the 2nd pass, it's a wonderfully sharp and smooth shave. People have suggested palm-stropping the blade prior to the first use. But I haven't tried that yet.

I've found that since I've been disassembling and rinsing my razor and blades after every use, the wax dot issue doesn't bother me. I started the disassembly after every shave approach after replying to a poll on DFS a few years ago - do you or don't you disassemble/rinse after every shave. At the time I responded that I didn't but after reading the posts I decided to try it and now I do it. Compulsively Big Grin Not really, but I rinse and wipe the razor parts with a barber towel and just rinse and flick dry the blade and then lay it all out to dry - I use fairly hot water so I think the wax gets rinsed and/or wiped away so its not really noticeable after the first shave. Now I only focus on the blades performance and don't even think about wax dots.

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

For me the no glue blades are for TTO style that can’t be taken apart, including vintage Gillette.
Wax stuck in the handle. But been using a coffee cup and putting the razor so that the keurig brews hot water, through the handle filling up cup.

KAI is not very sharp out of the wrapper, but it is wider than most blades. This means it has more blade exposure. So, it is aggressive, but that’s not the same as sharp.

The Bic Chrome Platinum is a very sharp blade, and holds an edge longer than Feathers.
